Was gone to the family retreat for Christmas where we didn't have any internet access. Got back and I guess I didn't update my anti-virus stuff and got nailed by the FBI ransomware crap. Did a system restore and nothing, I mean nothing but a blank screen. wound up having to take the puter into a tech and they had to do a re-install, nothing saved.

Anyhow I've got my muzzle brake done, at least the machining is done. I'll post a pic if I can figure out my password to my photobucket account. . .

Welcome back. Something similar happened to my laptop, ended up having to reinstall Windows to get it back up and running.

i find system restores to be generally useless. its like a reinstall.... but not really. it rebuilds the programs but dosent delete anything. plus side, you keep all of your files. down side, you also keep all of your viruses. i end up doing a full reinstall about every 2 years when the laptop starts gettting slow.

If you're browsing and that shit pops up on the screen hit the reset button on the front of your desktop/tower pc and crash it immediately. If it's a laptop hit the shut down button and drop the battery out as fast as you can. If you're fast enough the process of takeover will be interrupted and you'll be saved a lot of trouble.

Welcome back, sorry to hear about the PC issue. Were you running any kind of anti-virus software?

There are various fixes on the internet. I just caught the FBIransom today. Booted up another computer searched for instructions to fix it. Just had to boot into safe mode with networking, download a couple programs from www.CNET.com Superantispyware and Ccleaner install and run them while in safe mode. Supposed to run an avast scan also in safe mode but for some reason I couldn't get mine to run. But apparently the other two programs took care of it.
Moral of the story...Don't peruse porn sites :) and if you get a disease google instructions to remove it. Freakin scumbags writing this stuff should get a public hanging when caught.

although everyone bitches about it, ive never had a problem with vista. one of the more annoying things is it gives you a warning box popup to do AAAAAANY damn thing. this can also be a good thing. ive been on sites that will pop up windows with various shit (viruses, im sure) that lock the browser. chrome cannot auto download and windows can not auto install unless i click to give it permission (these clicks are usually disguised in a popup that make you think you need to click it to exit) whenever i get a window popping up, i CLICK NOTHING. hit ctl+alt+del to start task manager, then kill chrome. have never getten a virus. i do, however have im sure a few billion ad based programs slowing shit down. things that sites like ebay, amazon, sears, facebok, ect.. add on.
