I love the Harrier. Saw my first one at an air show at MCAS El Toro in 1974,pilot was making a high speed low level run ( about 100' ) directly at the crowd sitting in the bleachers, as it passed over head everyone turned around to see it pass and noticed that it had made a turn and was heading off at almost a 90* angle from us. Apparently the pilots can use the nozzles to help make tight turns at speed

They also had a helicopter insertion and extraction a a 5 man Recon team. The bird dropped down to about 50' dropped a line and 5 men rappelled to the ground in about 30 seconds. They set up a type of goal post with a line stretched between and all team members strapped themselves to the line and the bird flew by and hooked the line stretched between the posts and yanked them off the ground at about 40 mph and they flew away hanging under the helicopter.
