I drank quite a bit of red wine over the winter. A lot of the food we were cooking kinda demanded it. :)

Haven't drank anything for a week or so. But I've burned 3 in nearly as many days where I usually only have one or two a week at most. I'll have to post a picture of the fur shed with the GI stove and jugs sitting above the doorframe.

Thursday: Bagged a decent trophy on an arrest warrant. Celebrated the event with a Flavours by CAO Moontrance.

Friday: At 4:00pm Sarah Brady stood in line with Hitler to receive her first of many pineapples and coconuts. Had a Romeo y Juliet 1875 Bully for that one. (It was either going to be that or a Partagas)

Easter Sunday: Well, it's Easter. Was going to have an Ave Maria Templar, but ended up being given a Gurkha Beauty for free instead.

Bourbon distribution can be an odd thing. You're not seeing it in one of the nations largest cities, yet here you can grab it in convenience stores, grocery stores and every liquor store around.

Have you located any Evan Williams BIB in Chicago?

Jefferson and I differ on the best way to take bourbon. Thankfully neither one is wrong. With the 114 I drink it with just a splash of water. I find the vapors through the nose almost as important as drinking it. I believe reducing the temp of the whisky inhibits the nosing portion of the drink. With most bourbon or rye at 80 proof I take it neat. Occasionally I'll mix with coke.

Evan Williams is a great place to start. OGD 114 is great if you want to jump head first into the deep end of the pool.

Yeah, pretty much anything directed by David Lynch is "out there". A movie called Naked Lunch starring Peter Weller is a good one to check out.

I haven't watched Naked Lunch yet, but it is actually a David Cronenberg film.

They both weird directors, but Cronenberg seems to have a fascination with inserting machinery into the human body.

Hoegaarden is kind of bland to me. I like wheat beers, and it is a good one, it just doesn't have much flavor too it. I like a citrusy heffeweissen better.

Fat Tire is OK. It is made by New Belgium, and I prefer their other flavors such as the heavier 1554.

I haven't drank a lot of Hoegaarden before. It's dry for a weiss beir, w/ a little bitterness in the after-taste. Definitely different from the German weiss brews; still, seems decent enough for a summer quaff.

Don't get me wrong, I like the stuff. Its just a little white for my tastes. I like white beers with more flavor. Otherwise raspberry lambic is great to mix into a really white beer. Two parts white beer and one part lambic makes a wonderful treat on new years eve.

no no no, this is a different schnapps. This is real schnapps.
German Schnapps

The version of Schnapps found in German-speaking regions is not like you might be used to in the United States. It is colorless, clear, and offers a light, fruity flavor.

This version is created by using fermented fruit in the distillation process. And, when it is bottled, no sugar is added. The end result is usually 80 proof, and its taste and appearance greatly resembles the French eau-de-vie and the Obstler found in German-speaking countries.

To further define the beverage, its name can also mean a number of other German-made, distilled spirits, including Jagermeister, Steinhager, Kummel, and Korn.

When creating German Schnapps, fruits such as cherries, plums, pears, and apples are most often. Cherries are the most expensive fruit to use, while apples are the least expensive.

Obstwasser is created by combining pears and apples, Williamsbirne is the product of only pears, Zwetchgenwasser is made with plums, and Kirschwasser is made with cherries.

Austrian Schnapps is often created using Apricot, but you’d be hard pressed to find a fruit other than these five used to create German Schnapps.

Himbeergeist, a spirit flavored with raspberry, is also considered to be a Schnapps. However, when it is created, the raspberries are not fermented.
