As I posted before, I'm looking for a take-down .22 Rifle. I ran across a Browning sa-22 in a pawn shop for $300. It looks like it's in pretty good shape. There's almost no wear marks on the thing. I didn't notice any dings on the stock. I'm not too crazy about the almost plastic-like finish on the stock, but I won't reconsider just because of that. It's a "Made in Japan" model. All the screws are present. It looks complete with a cantilever scope mount that mounts on the barrel.

My question is, like the title says, what is the same used rifle going for in your area? Is $300 a good price for this rifle?

I think in the last 5 or so years I've seen one of these for sale used around here. IIRC, it was going for like $350, which I thought at the time was rather high, so I passed on it. What they normally might bring on average I don't know. I think they're around $600 new now.

Yeah.... I thought $300 was a bit high for a used .22 too. However, Brownings seem to run a bit higher than other rifles, and they tend to hold their value pretty well. I checked out the Sportsmen's warehouse yesterday. They had the rifle for $650. Usually, they're one of the lower priced firearms dealers in this area. Unless someone says the Browning .22 is MUCH cheaper in their area, I think I'll pick it up soon.

Well, one things for sure, it's a good rifle, and, it fulfills your wish for a breakdown model. I read the other day on Chuck Hawks site that he felt it was the best of the take down .22 rifles.

Are you talking about the Browning (Mikoru) ATD?

If so, $300 is a good price IF the barrel fits tight. There's one around here with a loose barrel and rougher than a cob for $250-275. If I weren't project poor and knew I could tighten the barrel fit...:think2:

Well, I drove down and got the rifle. It has your typical Browning gloss finish in the thing. Everything seems tight and complete. I managed to talk the shop owner down $25. :D

AWP, I'm not sure if this will work (haven't tried it), remove the barrel and turn in the nut one click, then re-install the barrel. Keep turning in the nut one or two clicks at a time until the barrel is tight.

Excellent, you'll have to share your first range report with us.

63D, there is a procedure but I don't recall what it is offhand (I'll look around and find it again) and the store keeps a trigger lock on them since they're not behind the counter. That means I can't get the barrel all the way out to check.

One day I just might though...
