To be fair, the article doesn't say the gun actually came from Fast and Furious. To be realistic, if they knew that it did not the FBI or Justice Department would have already said so. It sounds as if they are trying to either figure out a way that it did not come from Fast and Furious, or if that is unsuccessful, how to blame this on Bush so that no more negative publicity will come to Holder and Obama.

The other thing they could be doing is trying to see if they could work this into the citation for a Presidential Medal of Freedom for Holder.

Here's the litmus test for this situation:

If the CMSM mentions where the gun came from and when, then it wasn't tied to F&F;

If the CMSM doesn't pay any attention to the gun, then you know it came from F&F.

The determining factor is how close the CMSM looks into where and how he was able to buy the gun.

And, another thing, if the gun control advocates don't pay much attention to the gun purchase, then it was F&F, too.
