I have figured out the problem with the federal government and it is Willis Carrier, the inventor of air conditioning. Shortly after the country was founded it was decided that Washington DC was going to be the seat of government. Summers in DC are hot and humid which would encourage law makers and politicians to be done with government business and back at home, in the cool, as soon as possible. With the advent of air conditioning Washington DC became much more hospitable, especially indoors. This encouraged law makers to spend time inside, away from the heat and humidity. With all this extra time on their hands the natural thing to do was grow government so that law makers would have a reason to be inside, in the AC. So, the problems that we have today are not because of Republicans or Democrats, socialists or capitalists, it is because of Willis Carrier, the inventor of AC.

(Now that I live in DC, I am thankful that Mr. Carrier invented AC!)

I think he has a point there. If DC did not have air conditioning, older politicians would not be able to put up with the heat, so career politician could come to an end, either because the old smarter ones would stop running for an office that could cook them, or the old idiots would still run for election only to die of the heat.

I don't see a problem doing away with A/C in D.C.

That's an idea. It would, also, lighten up DC's carbon footprint...

Let's make DC an A/C Free Zone.

I like the sound of that.

The OP may have been tongue-in-cheek but I think he's on to something. Another thing AC has done is to keep us all indoors when in the past we would have spent summers outdoors, on the porch, etc..
This has put us out of touch and out of contact with our neighbors...and less likely to group together in keeping the politicians in line.
Bread, circuses, and cool, easy comfort.....

We can all see who's responsible for letting the federal government become the rampant out of control temper tantrum throwing child that it is.

Look in the mirror.

We, the People, allow our employees to rule our lives and we do nothing about it.

It's all OUR fault (and no purple required, because this ain't sarcasm... it's the truth).

There is a lot of truth to this. But don't leave out computers (as I type away while ignoring people in the same room), TV, movies, videos, Netflicks, anything that keeps us from interacting. It was written as an attempt at humor, but humor only works if there is some truth to it.

I don't disagree with this one bit. When I see those bumper stickers that say "Don't blame me, I voted for (fill in the blank)" I think they are probably more at fault. Instead of trying to educate people on what the politicians actually have done or believe they just voted and thought they were absolved of all guilt. No, we allowed this political mess to come to pass. My woeful attempt at humor does not change that. I only hoped to allow some of us to smile for a minute or two before we went back to fighting.
