Used Savage single shot b0lt action, spend your money on ammo and your time on shooting.

Great advise, unless you want TactiCool.

Are you talking about a .22 AR?

I am going to pick up a CMMG conversion for my personal training purposes. Makes sense for me not looking to spend too much and I can use it on any AR pistol to full sized in two shakes.

Yeah something of the sorts. My kids saw both the AR,Sig,and the GSG.They like the looks of all of them, but which is going to give me less grief?I have my Ruger 10/22 and my son's Henry. This would be for the kids and I would shoot it some as well.

I've looked at the Sig, and the Ruger AR22's. Both seemed well made and obviously are from known companies. How reliable they are or how accurate they shoot..........I dunno. At what they cost they should be both reliable and accurate IMO. Mossberg has one out and it sells for like $250 or so. But again I don't know if it's junk, or a good buy. I'd like to know more on all three. Doesn't Moe have the Sig 22?

Was going to recommend the Henry, but I see you already have one!

Another great starter .22LR is the Marlin 60. Inexpensive, accurate, not ammo sensitive and built like a tank.

I could recommend the GSG-522 or earlier GSG-5 if cost is not considered. My GSG-5 has been flawless in over several thousand rounds, and although a little heavy than most .22s it has almost no recoil.

Another choice for a starter would be a Savage Mark II. Bolt action rifle to teach form and control. Too easy to go wild with a semi-auto and nice capacity mag (like the GSG or a Butler Creek for a 10/22)

Both my kids started shooting when they were 6.my son got the Henry 22 and my daughter a Davy Cricket 22.They have more discipline than most of the tards at the range. They are ready for a fun, cool looking plinker. When I was a kid they did not make AR22 and other cool looking 22 rifles. They already shoot my AR,M1 carbines and such. They shop guns like I do,they see something and then they ask me about it.

I'm building my son his own M4 and my daughter an A2 next year. Both the kids like the the M1 carbine my uncle gave them, but do not like the brass popping them in the head. This is the only M1 we have that does this, and we are not quite sure why,I may need to get a brass catcher for it.

If you are looking for an AR .22, the best deal going now is CMMG.
Mine has been ultra reliable. Priced right. Made from real AR uppers.
Features that are not available from other manufacturers.
Check the CMMG Evolution.

I have the CMMG conversion unit -there's a deal right now - I think for stainless steel and two hi cap black dog mags - check the accessories forum?

Anyhoo - mine is great - the accuracy is plenty good for training - the dedicated models will be a little more accurate but hitting 3" targets at 50 yards should be fine for taining... I would think.

Here's me staring in one of my youtubes - showing the cmmg in action:

As you can hear and see, it was windy as shit that day...

I love my S&W .22 AR. Yes, they don't take the ever popular black dog magazines, but I have yet to have an issue with their mags. I've only used the iron sights it came with but I'm easily hitting clays at 50 yds with Federal bulk box (525 rd, champion?) and no feeding issues. I wish I had time to get a good scope for it to take squirrel hunting with it utilizing it's match grade barrel....using the short 10rd magazines for legal reasons, lol.

Also, it's able to accept most other AR parts, like grips, stocks, and match triggers, and has same operation as big-brother AR, i.e. charging handle and bolt release/catch lever. Took bud from work to range I go to and he couldn't stop smiling after shooting it and said it'll be part of his gun buying spree when we get our X-mas bonus :).
