Poster's Note: The serial number indicates a 1943 manufacture by Colt. The severe damage leads me to believe the soldier that was carrying this 1911A1 didn't live to tell it's story.

Yeah, I doubt the soldier carrying this survived. It was probably quick and they didn't know what hit them.

I am sure there are many similar artifacts from WWII. And yes, it this 1911 got that messed up, you know the poor soldier carrying it got worse... a reminder to us all the sacrifices our grandfathers made to keep our freedoms and liberties secure.

And our brothers and sons are doing it today -right now for all of us.

Lest we forget.
