I have scrubbed with Mr. Clean, heat gunned and wiped then scrubbed some more using Murphy's Oil Soap. I have removed all the oily cosmo from the stock and it is nice and dry waiting for something to be applied. I am wondering the opinion here should i put Old English lemon oil or Tru oil? I have both. Also I am wondering what to so with the hole where the stock disk was intended to go. It fits a quarter perfectly. So that means it will fit a british shilling perfectly. Would this be a thing you guys would do?

Here is the before picture

I would use boiled linseed oil. Tru oil would probably be close enough. It looks like the Mr clean stripped the wood so you are going to need to add multiple thin coats and rub it in. Linseed oil might be 10 or so coats

If you plug that hole, you won't be able to take the firing pin out of the bolt...

However, that coin does look good there.

O.S.O.K.

I'd go with the oils listed or as already said, Boiled Lindseed Oil. If you look around, you can find brass replacement disks to go in that hole. I don't think they ever used that hole for bolt disassembly - that was the Mauser.

the SMLE takes a , finger, flat head and bolt disassembly tool .

that missing disc is usually armorers markings IE: how many times in for repair, issue/field or DP/training status.

I'd just go with lemon oil or find some Ballistol.

You're right. The Mauser hole is used for the bolt disassembly. I remember seeing a vid of some guy taking his bolt apart using a hole in the Mauser stock and I thought they used the same thing on the Enfield, too.

Damn, memory's the first thing to go, I guess. I miss mine, but I can't remember why....

i never used that mauser hole , I always just used a hunk of pine with a hole drilled into it.

Imagine having a nice K98 and slipping , making your buttstock look like freddy kruger spent the weekend with it.

gave the wood a rub with 0000 Steel wool to get the little hairs off and put a coat of lemon oil on and it is looking great. I am impressed. The rifle went from looking like it had a black plastic stock to a nice piece of wood.

Here are some pics. It got darker in spots then i had hoped but overall happy with the outcome. Definitely way better then when i first got it.

Would a Loonie or a Twoonie fit the hole?

No but a quarter will. I found something in my junk silver bag. I think this guy will go well. A very worn 1926 British shilling. The rifle was made in 1918 and has G.R. Markings on it. So this coin will work. The bust looks the same in those years. Silver is also good luck. So it might improve my shooting.

I just need to secure it well. Probably some two part epoxy or superglue.

Ask and shall receive. I posted on another forum the coin in the hole idea and nearly got my head bitten off. But from the same group I now have an unmarked stock disk. Met the guy this morning. $10. Cant beat that.
