View Full Version : Is .22 RF Finally Coming Back Now?

Went to Wally World and picked up 3-100 rnd. boxes of .22 RF. Was in the same Wally World last week and picked up 3-50 rnd. boxes of .22 Mag. They still had about 12 boxes left when I bought mine. A friend called about 2 weeks ago and said he bought 3-333 rnd. boxes at a different Wally World.

It seems as though the drought on .22's is starting to go away.

Is anyone else seeing more .22's coming in now?

I have found some at Dick's but not at the WalMart by my house.

picked up a 1400 rnd tub at gander mountain 6 month ago, think I paid $70, I was just glad to see it, but it kills me considering I was paying $98 for 1000rnds of wolf 10 years ago.

I have hand almost no luck at Wall mart. A local gun shop and a new Gander MT. that opened in a near by town I have been able to find federal Auto Match and some CCI Std. Velocity. The CCI works perfectly in my 22-45 lite with suppressor on it.

The Sandy Hook Elementary school massacre in CT sparked a panic buy that over 2 years later still has .22 LR in short supply. Ironically the caliber used to kill the children, (.223 / 5.56 mm) is readily available.

What Schuetz said. None here either and I live prolly 20 miles south of him.
My Wallyworld still has signs up limiting the amount you can buy, but that doesn't matter.
They never have ANY.

Comes in at Walmart and gone same day haven't seen it. Was at Dicks in Lafayette today and didn't see any but have been hearing it's always on the shelf as close as Ft Wayne plenty in Ohio too
People seem to be hoarding or flipping it around here. A guy was here Sat and said he happened on three bricks recently at Walmart.
He was going to buy it and the guy behind the counter said those were the last three and he was buying them
Frustrating

Same thing here in Eastern OH. I spoke with a Wal-Mart employee a few months back who said the same people continue to come in and snatch up all .22 LR before it even hits the shelf because they have the shipping schedule down to a science.

Yesterday I bought .22LR for the first time in years at a local gun shop. They had 500r bricks of 40-grain Aguila for $41, both lead and copper. I bought the last box of copper.

IF I had the money right now, I'd probably be picking up some to replace what I've shot over the last couple of years... I interviewed for a good job today and it went excellent! So, maybe I'll be able to take care of this...

As it is, I'm still well stocked from my last stock-up efforts when I paid $12/500. So I got nothing to bitch about lol.

Picked up 300 more rnds. of .22 Short yesterday. That makes 600 rnds. of shorts in the past two weeks. Was talking to another customer and he said this was the first time he's seen any shorts in over a year.

Hopefully, .22's are slowly making a comeback in my area. It's looking better now.

Just picked up a 1,000 rnd. box of Winchester M-22 ammo at WallyWorld the other day for $50. First time I've ever seen a box of 1,000. Didn't know it was sold in 1,000 rnd. packs.

Going shooting this weekend, with a couple of friends, and see if we can empty this box.

I almost cried the last time I bought a case (5000 rounds) of CCI Blazer for $140 shipped as the time before that I paid $90 shipped. Sometimes memories are a bad thing, like remembering complaining when .22LR went from $5 a brick (500 rounds) to $6 per. Or when Sellier & Bellot .223 went from $120 per case of 1000 to $140 and then $160 in just a couple of months. Or the price wars for 9mm at our local very large (at that time) fun show brought the price of Sellier & Bellot to $90 per case. Of Wolf 7.62x39 for $80, etc, etc, etc.

Can't seem to wrap my brain around a 500 round brick of .22LR for $30 plus. Like I said, wish I was much younger so I wouldn't know of nor remember "those were the days".

On the box is states muzzle velocity is a consistent 1255 FPS. It's black, copper-plated round nose.

Same here. Know what the prices were before Sandy Hook.......I just can't get myself to pay 30 for 500. I would for $15. Maybe after the election, the prices will plummet.

Same here - ever since the panic I haven't shot much .22, but when I have it's been out of a Remington single-shot bolt-action. I may bust out the semi-autos and repeaters again now that I can at least buy a brick or two at the gun shops.

I couldn't find any at the local walmarts here this weekend. It still tends to be scarce. I do have a decent supply though. Since I mainly shoot my bolt action now days it tends to last.

Yesterday, while at a local Wally World, I saw the clerk unloading his cart of ammo and putting it onto the shelves. I asked if they had gotten any .22's in and he said, yes. He scrounged around and found it. It was a sealed box of two 1,000 rnd. Winchester M-22 boxes, just like I bought a while back.

I, only, had enough money for one of the boxes, so I bought that.

I've noticed that Wally World seems to be getting in bulk-sized boxes instead of the usual, small 50 rnd. boxes (unless it's CCI's).

Still, they must sell these quickly, as they never have any displayed on the shelves. They only ones I've seen, rarely, on the shelves are either 22 Shorts, 22 Mags, or 22 bird shot....none of the LR.

Around here, I guess you have to catch them as they unload their pallets or you don't get them...

p.s. I've had no issues with the M-22's at all. They work equally well in revolvers or semi-autos.

I think the trend of panic buying is starting to slow down a little. Went to Wallyworld today and they had about 10 boxes of Winchester SuperX .22LR, 100 packs for $8.37 each. Kind of high priced, but I told the clerk I'd take some and he asked how many I wanted. I told him I thought you could only get 3 at a time and he said they've been on the shelf for 3 days (he figured the price scared buyers away). Told me I could have as many as I wanted so I bought 5 boxes.

I may have paid too much, but if Hitlery gets elected, I'll be super glad I did buy them when I did. If they're still there in a few days, I may pick up some more.

Haven't seen many .22 LR these past few weeks, so I jumped when I had the chance.

Honestly it's tough to find any .22 lr under a dime a round anymore. The cheapest I've found is the Federal Auto Match and it seems to be one of the least accurate rounds from Federal. I'me paying 7.38 cents a round sales tax included. Given the scarce nature of .22 LR I get the Atuo Match simply because something is better than nothing. The days of 5 cent a shot .22 LR ammo I think are gone for all time.

It's still hit or miss around here. But, it appears to be slowly coming back. Picked up 150 rnds, of .22 Mag last week, and 200 rnds. of shorts tonight. The shelves at Wally World are full of all kinds of center fire ammo.

There was .22LR at the local WalMart for the first time in over 3 years last week. There were a few hundred round in the case an no line waiting to purchase. Now if the price would come back down a little. Of course, the way things are going Clinton will be elected and on November 9th everything will be gone again. Bother that I am sort of restricted in purchases as I am getting ready to move back across country again and the movers won't take ammo. It is hazardous, you know.

Just got back from a different WallyWorld and they had 20 boxes of CCI .22 MiniMag (50 rnds.) still on the shelves. Usually, all of their .22's are gone by mid-morning, so I considered myself lucky to run across this when I did. I picked up 2 boxes.

It's a good thing I have guns that will shoot any type of .22 RF that I come across.

My favorites are a .22 Ruger convertible and a Taurus Circuit Judge .22 with two cylinders for LR or Mag.

Went back to the same WallyWorld, today, and they had received a new shipment since yesterday. I bought 6 boxes of CCI .22's. (The usual sign limiting a customer to 3 boxes was gone and I asked the manager if that still applied and he told me I could have as many boxes as I wanted.)

I picked up another box of MiniMags, 3 boxes of Hollow Point Stingers, a box of Standard Velocity and a box of Quiet-22. I didn't bother with the Shorts as I already have enough of them right now. The Quiet-22 is something I haven't seen before, so I bought that one for grins and giggles to see what they'll do.

Anyhow, I may go back tomorrow and see what's left.

I might finally get back into rimfire. I've been wanting a Ruger Take-down in stainless with some of those 25 rounders, and a M&P-22 compact. Also the new Ruger Mark IV hunter model looks really appealing to me.

My uncle has one and likes it. I held it and thought it felt quality.

I like the M&P-22 compact for a 22 that feels like a normal handgun, and I've always like the Ruger Mark series as a target pistol for their funky 1970's appearance. I have a mark 2 22/45 target model and think a mark 4 would be a good upgrade to have in addition to it.

Check out the upgrades they did for the mark 4. Once all of the options for Mark 3 models are available in mark 4 configuration, I think it will be the perfect .22 target style pistol.
