I decided to take an 8mm fired surplus berdan primed case and get the primer out. It was actually very quick and easy. I used my cordless drill and a 3/16 bit to start. I just bowled the primer a bit then I changed to a 1/16 bit and made a 45 degree angle hole to avoid hitting the anvil inside the primer pocket. I then took a mini dollar tree screwdriver and pried the primer out. came out no sweat. I then emailed the guy i get my reloading component from and he has berdan primers. So I am going to pick up a packet or two next time I am there. I will take the de-capping pin out and resize with just the expander so I don’t break the pin off. This should be just fine.

Actually water and a dowl that fits the neck tight works. Fill case with water put the dowel in the case neck. It needs to be a snug slip fit. Put the case in a shell holder for a reloading press. Whack dowel with hammer and the primer pops out. Only draw back is there is water getting around on the work bench area.

Why mess with Berdan primers? They still sell Boxer-primed ammo fairly cheaply and you can reload the shells without going through all that hassle.

I get mine from here:

yea we have that here too. My LGS also has winchester brand in soft points. This hobby is all about fiddling. I picked up the primers today and am now searching and hoping to find 8mm Vmax bullets or something else equally interesting.
