I wanted to find a Vietnam era rifle the was a bit more rare than the M16 or the M16A1 and the XM16E1 (603)
was my choice. It was the rifle that addressed the M16 issues and paved the way for the popular M16A1 and M4 variants.

This one was a bit more unique in that the original colt 1965 barrel was a special request from the Canadian police who wanted
a rifle shot with distance and accuracy. the M16 1:12 twist rate caused the bullet to tumble and was not very accurate at long
range so Colt made a 1:8 twist rate barrel for them. I found one still wrapped in cosmoline and cloth in a cardboard sleeve dated 1965.

A couple of upgrades to the M16 was a forward assist and a chrome bolt

before anyone asks, All of the Parts are 100% real except the Lower, its a NDS-XM16E1 Replica.

It does have the 1965 Colt trigger, hammer and selector. but being a Semi-Auto
Lower the Auto Seer and dis connector wont work or fit in the receiver.

I agree, where did you find the kit? I like it. I built a AR a few years ago and my goal was to be as close to the original as possible but I couldn't find a kit to do that with. Still like what I ended up with but it was not quite what I set out to build. Here is mine.

In these days of tacticool railed bullshit, old school is the way to go.

That looks like a hybrid, old school front and new fangled collapsible butt stock!

that buttstock has been around for a long time, the aluminum ones are the real ones though.

mostly at gun shows, all the parts are original 1965 XM16E1, even the trigger parts (except NFA items) Waiting on those.
I rummaged through boxes of stuff for a long time looking for the right items.

The buffer tube only has 2 positions, how much more old school can you get?

Beautiful rifle, nice job. I have A1, A2, and A4 clones that I built - I enjoy them all.

not a Kit, I hunted for the parts at Gun Shows and online.
The Lower is a Replica mold from NDS

What is interesting is the the upper receivers today are cut with Auto Seer area,
