DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police say a carjacking suspect was killed in a shootout with the would-be victim Tuesday night.

The attempted carjacking happened at the Citgo station near Fenkell and Schaefer on Detroit's West Side.
An owner of the Citgo station who witnessed the incident told Action News the carjacking suspect pulled a gun and shot the driver of a GMC Yukon outside the gas station.

The driver, who has a concealed weapons permit, fell to the ground after being hit. He returned fire, killing the man who was attempting to drive off with his vehicle.

A child in the backseat of the vehicle was not hurt. A woman who was with the man and young girl was inside the store during the gunfire.
The driver of the Yukon was shot in the leg, hip and face. He was alert and talking before being transported to the hospital. He was released from Sinai-Grace hospital today following treatment.

Police have not identified the man who attempted the carjacking.

Gun control is hitting your target. Bad news is that victims wife wants to know who the other woman was and why were they with him? Further updates on his condition will follow if he goes home before he comes up with a real good reason. Easy on the pain medicine doc, the man needs a clear head.
