I have a WWII issue Remington Rand 1911- a nice gun that seems manufactured with a seeming precision not found in current 1911 guns and a beautiful parkerized finish. I want to replace the recoil spring. Was the 16 recoil spring standard for guns of that era as is the case today?

IMHO.

i'd go with a wilson combat spring kit. for the price you can update everything pretty cheap.

Thanks. I looked up on wilson kit which had a 10 pound spring which must be for competition shooters shooting with some sort of no recoil loads and an 18 1/2 pound spring. I will try their 18 1/2 spring.

Every 1911 problem I've ever encountered was fixed by replacing the 16# spring with a 20# spring.

I use Wolff gunsprings in all my pistols and never any problems.
