$650 for a new shooter you wont feel bad about dinging up VS the steep $$$$$$$$ originals are bringing now in any condition.

Based on what the surplus rifles were and are selling for I'd go for it.

Thanks. I have been on the fence for a while about these...good to know price has come down. Many QC issues around forums from owners of these. Lots of problems getting them running right.

Not a bad price, though I would still prefer a GI model that will only appreciate in value as the years go on.

That would be better if you could get one for a reasonable price that wasn't worn out. But I bought the New Auto Ordinance one because 1. Real M1 Carbines are restricted in Canada So cant hunt with them. This New manufactured one has an 18 inch barrel which makes it legal for hunting. and 2. It was brand new so perfect condition perfect bore. I bought mine to use and I use it, Without worry of wearing out or breaking a valuable collectable. The quality of this rifle makes me feel confident it will last me a long long time. Also I was told parts are interchangeable with original GI parts.

Original USGI M1 carbines have 18 inch barrels.

Interesting that "real" M1 carbines are restricted in Canada while the new manufactured AO's are not, the AO's are a exact copy of the original. As you noted, they are even parts interchangeable.

I like the AO's, have handled and fired several and you can't tell any difference in them on the range from one of the USGI carbines from my collection. But don't worry about wearing out a carbine by shooting it, it's pretty much over engineered for the .30 carbine round it shoots.
