I was in my tree stand. 7mm Rem mag rifle... (Savage 111) about 40 yards to the apple pile. I heard shuffling and then saw the top of his head looking over a tipped over tree just behind my apple pile. He was actually on his belly trying to sneak in. I aimed just under the log. as it was off the ground about a foot. Nailed him in the neck and it came out then went back in by his shoulder. The mangled bullet was in his armpit. I left it out on the rail out back.. Too lazy to go out and get it. Will take before and after pic of the Hornady A Max... the bullet jacket fully mushroomed and rolled all the way back, the lead core fragmented and separated. All i found was the copper jacket and small bits of lead the size of bb shot.

when the bullet passed through his neck it cut an artery. The blood was coming out like a fountain. He dropped in the spot. Random leg spasms every few seconds for a minute or two.

And this happened about a half hour before sunset.

There are a lot of places that allow hunting over bait, especially if the deer are considered a nuisance.... They just put a season on them to generate money.

IIRC, in MD, if you hunt every season, hunt in every district, and get the limit each time, you're allowed about 28 deer each year. (That's still not enough to thin the damned population...Phuking vermin.)

I wish I could get a picture of the big guy... There is a 12 point that I would guess goes 220# plus and has a 30" or greater spread. My running buddy counted 16 deer crossing the front yard last spring.
