There's always at least one copycat.

The guy had a handgun, shotgun and an AR-15 in his room along with "lots of ammo". No information has been released indicated the guy planned on shooting anyone. The fact his room was on the 28th floor overlooking planned events for tonight means nothing as I presume every room on that side of the hotel also overlooks the same area.

Did he ask for that room or was he just given what ever room was next up when he checked in? The "lots of ammo" could mean a couple of 30rd mags for the AR. Was he in town for a 3 Gun match?

True, but prudence requires detaining him, questioning him..

Seems to be getting sorted out

Houston police said an intoxicated and belligerent man at a downtown hotel where a New Year's Eve party is scheduled has been arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing after they found several guns and ammunition in his room. Police added that they don't believe he intended to use the weapons.
.........
Lt. Gordon Macintosh said other officers arrived to take him into custody and found an AR-15 rifle, shotgun and handgun in his room, plus ammunition. They also found other weapons in his pickup truck.
....
Police spokesman Victor Senties said the man later told investigators he'd brought the guns into his room from his truck because he didn't want them to get stolen.

I guess the one's in the truck weren't very good

Officials added that the man said he recently had domestic relations problems and had to remove his belongings from his residence, including his guns, which were not loaded in the hotel room.

Senties said investigators don't believe the man intended "to use the weapons or to cause any kind of issue."

KPRC 2 TV reporter Jacob Rascon tweeted: "Man in custody after Houston police find AR-15, shotgun, handgun and 'lots of ammmo' inside his hotel room, on 28th floor of Houston Hyatt Regency, overlooking planned New Year’s celebration. His truck, with paper plates, found and towed.

'lots of ammo" was a reporters take
Now according to this one not so much and they have him identified

After hours of investigating, police charged 49-year-old Russell Lawrence Ziemba with assaulting a peace officer and trespassing.
.....
"Based on limited amount of ammunition, interview and other investigative findings no unlawful intent found," Acevedo tweeted just after 2 p.m.
An official familiar with the case said it appeared all three guns were legally owned, despite earlier reports to the contrary. Ziemba didn't make any threats, the official said.
At the time of his arrest, the Tomball man was out on bond following a Dec. 23 misdemeanor arrest for allegedly carrying a handgun in his car, court records show. Previously, he'd been convicted twice for drunk driving.
...........
Drunk and belligerent, domestic problems already in trouble with the law
What could go wrong?
