Been thinking before replying, and come to this conclusion. We might not like the regime in Syria, but if the Russians want to get themselves killed, let them have at it. Get our troops out and into safer places.

And why does Putin seem so wanting to start a war that could very well end human life on this planet, or at least set it back several hundred years?

Putin is to Russia as Trump is to the USA. He refuses to let other countries push him around, so he's drawing a line in the sand. The big question is what will Trump do? Will he call his bluff, or not? Then, if he does, will Putin decide Russia is strong enough to defy us?
