No guns at rec center legal or not?

The "no weapons" policy at the city's recreation center may be legal.

The policy, along with a similar West Park Hospital rule, was contested by Cody resident Serge Joskow who argues the policy is unconstitutional because only the state is allowed to regulate firearms.

Wyoming Attorney General Bruce Salzburg told the city council by letter, "Municipalities are excepted from this rule for the limited purpose of regulating ‘conduct which disturbs or jeopardizes the public health, safety, peace or morality in any public or private place.'"

City of Cody Wyoming challenging lawful carry with nuisance code

November 9th, 2010 6:58 pm MT
***Update***

Cody Council agreed to remove ban.

________________________________________________

Once again the gun control movement has reared its ugly head in Wyoming. But not where one would expect. The City of Cody being rich in gun history declares lawful gun owners a public nuisance!!!

We expect this kind of stupidity in California or New York, but not in Wyoming...Just another case of Politicians that tell you what rights you can and can’t have”.

Flap over gun rules at Cody Rec Center passes

By MARTIN J. KIDSTON Gazette Wyoming Bureau The Billings Gazette | Posted: Friday, December 10, 2010 12:00 am | No Comments Posted

CODY, Wyo. — Just before lunch Thursday, Jennifer Scheid picked up her children at the Paul Stock Aquatic and Recreation Center, where she's been a member for seven years.

Upstairs, activity in the weight room was in full swing, the treadmills buzzing and the weights clanging. Downstairs, posters promoted the second phase of an upcoming spinning class, while a lone swimmer cast ripples in the pool.

You might not believe that as recently as Tuesday, this impressive facility perched on a hill overlooking downtown Cody was caught in a Second Amendment debate over whether one has the right to bring a weapon into the building.

I take your point. You need guns at swimming pools to defend yourselves from the murderous effects your ludicrous 2nd Amendment.

Take a look at this post (http://www.gunsnet.net/showthread.php?5212-The-UK-is-on-fire...&p=72917#post72917). We've just had a major riot in London a couple of miles from where I'm writing this. Amazingly no one was killed. Why? Because British police and the British population are, on the whole, unarmed.

Britain's gun control laws saved lives yesterday.

Fortunately no one was killed. British police are unarmed so must fight with their fists, nightsticks, pepper spray, horses etc. They don't have to worry about someone grabbing their weapon.
