So I have been wanting to make a winter project out of this old Brno 21H. The stock has been shortened to dwarf length and the barrel is very eroded but the action is in very nice condition. I would like to get some ideas on a new barrel. It is chambered in 7x57 now. So the case head should be pretty standard. I was thinking of getting it redone in 6.5x55 or .257 Roberts. Either should be the appropriate length for the receiver and also should be a fit for the bolt face and extractor since these cartridges share the 7x57 case head. Any other suggestions on caliber that might be a nicer whitetail deer cartridge? I was wanting to stay away from the 30's. Something with mild recoil and a snappy round. I would go with 7x57 again but my smith doesn't have a reamer for that cartridge. I was actually considering 6mm Remington as an option. I had a Rem 740 in that caliber before and it is a solid white tail killer.
