I don't know about the G36. It sounded like the German army wasn't happy with it and wanted to ditch it as fast as possible once they got combat experience with it.

I'd love to see genuine HK 91/93/94 models for sale at decent prices but for what they want for the new SP5K-PDW ($2800) that they released you wound't want to buy one. I'm sorry but that's too much for a 9mm with a stamped sheet metal receiver built on a 70+ year old design (CETME). A model that has been licensed for manufacture all around the world nonetheless.

That was the intent of the HK293 but none were imported to the USA.
