Yes they are the same.
Its like in the 80's and you were rich and owned a Porche. The rich called a Porche with the little swoop over the E so it was pronounced Porcha, the poor called it a Porche.

Its called a silencer until you own one, then its a suppressor. And look down your nose to those that call it a silencer and you must correct them.. LOL

I own 2 Suppressors.
