I remember it like it was yesterday....very sad. :(

I don't much care for going out on the Great Lakes.....storms blow up in 5 minutes that can take your life.

Tragic event. I did like the song though.

Yeah, I remember it being in the news when it happened, then Gordon's song came out and it was quite popular, plus over the years there's been a handful of good documentaries on the event.

Yeah...I have watched a few tv documentaries. :)

I have stood on shore and looked out to where the Fitz went down.....they just recently found a old wooden ship that is in amazing condition......that saying about Lake Superior never gives up her dead when witches of November come early is true....something about the cold water that the bodies stay on the bottom.

The Great Lakes are basically inland oceans or seas....I took the ferry from Ludington to Milwaukee a few times....once it got stormy and I got seasick...and I was not alone.....a lot of the passengers were looking green around the gills. :D
I remember one time some people were out on a pier and a big wave come and swept them all off.

Once I was setting in my truck taking a ferry across Lake Erie when a wave hit us washing a wave across the ferry. I remember looking sideways out of my truck to see the tip of the wave going by the side window. It was as if I was looking at a fish tank, peering through the water. I always thought that was pretty kool considering I was 3 or so feet high. Growing up near Lake Erie we would go out in a rubber raft in the storms and ride the waves, that was alot of fun.

I remember when the Edmund went down, interesting time in how it captivated alot of attention.

Lake Erie is a shallow lake....isn't the average depth about 6ft?
I remember when Lake Erie was so polluted it used to catch fire.

Lake Erie

* The shallowest and warmest of the Great Lakes and ranks fourth in size to the other Great Lakes.
* Being the most biologically productive of the Great Lakes, the Lake Erie walleye fishery is widely considered the best in the world.
* Ninety-five percent of Lake Erie's total inflow of water comes via the Detroit River from Superior, Michigan, Huron, the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair and many tributaries.
* The water levels of Lake Erie are prone to constant change..
* Lake Erie empties into the Niagara River and Welland Canal. The first Welland Canal was built in 1833 with wooden locks.
* Along the shore of Lake Erie lie the major cities of Cleveland, Ohio and Erie, Pennsylvania.
* Water is replaced in the shortest amount of time in Lake Erie, only about 2.6 years.
