As much as I don't like the H&K attitude ("because we hate you") I was on a strange rifle buying spree back in the early zeros, so in 2002 or so when I first saw the H&K SL8-1 I just had to add it to my Steyr AUG and USR, Calico M100, Norinco 86s, and a few other odd-balls.

Never shot it but did think it was a cool idea how modular it was/is. Then I looked into parts to bring it closer to the original G36 and decided I didn't want to pay the price of a nice firearm for just the carry handle. SL8-1 does occupy a special section of my safe for safe-queens.
