I wanted to see how durable Com-bloc ammo tins are, so I buried a tin of 7N1 and a tin of chinese x39(zinc tin) under the house in April of 2008. This test was only meant to run a year, but with all that went on in my life, I simply forgot about it. So it turned into a 32 month test.

Bottom line; Don't bury these tins where there is moisture in the soil, mine went thru a wet/dry cycle thruout the year. I would recommend sealing the tins with pitch, or whatever else is good, for burying these tins.

BTW, they were still sealed, but on the way to having rust-thru in many spots. Glad I remembere the 3,160 rounds I buried before I moved out!!!

I've got a couple buried in various places, but I covered the cans with Herculiner that I picked up at NAPA that I put on them with a brush.

Last one I dug up to move was still in excellent shape.

Hell I could of told you they would rust through unless coated with something water proof. I've seen plenty of rusted up cans in crates that got rained on due to a leaky wearhouse roof.
