That's odd that they would do that. I wonder if the welds were original to the build or was it rebuilt at some point.

Thats one of the heathers drawings its just a cover to protect the paint it's a plan for a cooling unit to be put on a roof .

Yeah I have a support issue now the trunnion support I have is not even close so I am thinking on how to support it while I press out the barrel pin .

easy fix, do you have a small steel plate, like 2" wide, 1/4" thick & a 2x4 block?

yeah, should be simple to carve a support out of a piece of 2x. i wouldnt even worry about a steel plate.

The steel will help the wood out so it doesn't deform too much while pressing.

Do you have the original wood? My next build is going to be an M72. I have all the parts I need and the barrel is pressed. The wood is banged up a bit but solid with soldier markings so I'd like to preserve that. Some fellow with too few vowels in his name personalized it. Crude but cool.

I just wondered what finishes looked most authentic for these. They look more oiled than shellac.

Here's a couple pictures of the wood. I washed the markings out a bit with the flash and tried enhancing a bit. I'll do better. The kit is all matching but strange in that the metal looks almost untouched, like it wasn't even carried. The bore does look really good. Maybe it was refinished when handed in but the wood was left marked up.

Plans for an RPK built on an NDS receiver?

Chuckle ...

Times HAVE changed. Why back in the day ... :)

It looks pretty good my friend. Have fun at the range. Enjoy the looks people give you. Nothing like the fins to turn heads.
