View Full Version : What have you acquired while Gunsnet was down?

I figured I'd start the thread....gunsnet has been down too long....while down we've all had guns that have come and some that have gone.....catch us up.
Me? I won a National Match 1911 in a PBA raffle...it's since been traded... I got a 1953 Systima 1911 (great condition) and some cash (needed the cash but that is for another thread)...I decided to do something different this year for deer season, so....I bought a Mossberg ATR 100 in .243. I'm liking the light recoil and light rifle compared to the 308 Mauser I hunted with last year. I also bought a Martin "Threshold" compound bow for the early bow season....Lastly, my father-in-law brought me his Carl Gustaf Swedish Mauser in 6.5. It's a sweet shooter. Funny part is he said he was thinning his collection and then turned around and bought a Mossberg ATR in 3006, LOL....one gone, one bought, my kind of thinning. Lastly I picked up a Kahr CW45. It's now my full time off duty gun. The only thing I've done to it is add night sights.
That's mine. I'll post pictures when I'm on my home computer.
What did you get?

Scott

Got my first AR type rifle put together on and old receiver I had laying around. Bought five AR receivers from Rguns (consecutive serial numbers). They bought up a big supply from someone that went out of business after the buying frenzy and the glut hit. Got em for 55 dollars each!

I've since got a 300 whisper kit from M1S and a Form 1 to build an internal suppressor around it. I posted about it in the black rifles forum.

Neat lil Ruger...
I'm a big fan of Ruger wheel guns.
I just don't think they can be beat in terms of toughness and reliability

I bought "nothing" since Gunsnet has been down (as far as guns go).
But my next purchase will be another Ruger GP-100.

My wife wants it (GP-100) because she says my HK USP45 has too many switches and levers and stuff.
She wants something simple.
I want something tough.
This is win/win.

We had a 4" GP-100 in the past, but had to sell it (along with a few others) due to money troubles.
This time, we are going for a 6" and have the barrel ported.
It will serve double duty as my ranch gun...

Actually, just before Gunsnet went down, I started collecting things other than AKs. Figuring I couldn't own every AK variant ever made thanks to our government destroying our constitutional rights, I decided to start collecting Beretta 92 variations.

Boy did I ever make a mistake!!! There are almost as many Beretta 92 variations as there are AK variations!!!! Did manage to land an original 92 step side and both variations of the original 92 standard slide, Italian made for world sale, and made for Brazilian purchase.

Found out there were at least 85 variations of the 92 series, not counting US versus Italian, and the straight versus tapered dustcover style frame. Then the US made with Italian parts, then.....

WELCOME BACK GUNSNET!!!!!!

Went a little nuts on some 1911s. Got a High Standard Crusader Compact just before the site went down, picked up a 1991A1 commander (that makes 7 now), built a Bulgy '74, and completed a Form 1 mod on a Draco pistol.

I don't think I would port it. Just dos centavos from an old dinosaur but you have 6" of barrel, 45 ounces of metal and lovely grips to wrap your fist around. I really don't think you will find recoil an issue even with the heaviest factory loads.

Unless you are going to roll your own gun busting, tree wrecking, suicide loads. I would save the money you were going to spend for porting it and buy a case of 38 special and 357 magnums instead.

Couple of shotguns and a rifle. Will post if I can ever figure out how to post a picture.

Winchester semi-auto 18" barrel 12 gauge, H&R single shot 36" barrel 10 gauge and my lovely pride and joy, my very own Springfield Armory, (June 1941), M1 Garand. Now I won't have to keep cleaning my brothers gun. Also bought a ridiculous amount of ammo but not nearly as much as I want and probably half again more than I can afford. Found a source for primers and powder and bought the guy out. Heh, heh, heh! I also found out that 10 gauge isn't nearly so bad to buy when you buy a case at a time. What did I get myself into?

Nice broomhandle, mr mitch.

I'm not for sure how long gunsnet was down, but it seems like decades.

Still, I completed my micro-arsenal.

I currently have 2 22lr's, 2 9mm pistols, 2 12 gauges, and 2 AR15's.

I'm quite content with my humble little collection.

I was thinking about the porting for my wife.
Maybe I'll just let her shoot it a few times first and then decide.

3 M1 Garands and a shitload of ammo from the CMP. Two of them were field grade Springfields, one was a woodless Winchester. I just got a 7.62 Nato barrel., operating rod, and stock for that one. Going to send it off for rebearreling and a new park job. I was also really pleased with the other two field grades. One looked really nice with almost all the finish remaining, but its barrel is a bit worn out. Shoots decent, but nothing spectacular. I'll probably buy a new barrel for that one. The other looks a little more beat up, but the barrel is better. That one is an awesome shooter. At least as good as the service grade I already had.

Also picked up another AR lower to go with the extra .22LR upper I had so I wouldn't have to swap them.

Why would your wife need porting? Don't most already have a bunch of... oh, N/M.

I horse traded for a Saiga 12. It actually makes shooting a shotgun fun. I dragged it around on my unsuccessful turkey hunts this year and loved every minute of it.

Nothing here. The misses and I did buy a house though......and yes we can shoot in the backyard (no rifle's until I get a berm built).

Love the place ELC, it looks a lot like my wife's grandfathers place in northern MI....I wish it would stay in the family....

all I've bought is a DAO Taurus 85 for carry

looks just like this but without the hammer spur and it has rubber grips (which actually fit my hand) rather then wood

also got a sportsman's club membership, so I can finally start shooting stuff again.

oh, and a new job

I figured I'd start the thread....gunsnet has been down too long....while down we've all had guns that have come and some that have gone.....catch us up.

What did you get?

Only one new toy... which I can't show because for some reason I can't upload the image... :copper:

Oh yeah!

I forgot about this.

After almost 3 years of searching, I finally found an East German bayonet Type2 with "square butt" in BLACK instead of red.
They seemed impossible to actually find in stock any place at all.
Probably seems like a simple thing, but it was a big deal to me.
:hyper:

Also picked up a Bulgarian bayonet just because my rifle is a Bulgy and it completed the set.

That's exactly how we felt, when we put a bid on our place....it was the third or fourth (I can't remember) place we bid on. Funny how that shit works.

Got a new .22 air rifle. Up to 2000 feet per second too. Really packs a whollup! Been doing lots of practice with it in the back yard. Do any of you know of a set of rings for a supersniper scope that will fit the 3/8 inch scope grooves on this rifle?

What have you acquired while Gunsnet was down?

Not much. Just some ammo in various calibers and an AMT "Backup" .45 ACP in stainless steel.

http://www.gunsnet.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=34&d=1279389615

(shown along with an M1911 for size comparison).

She runs flawlessly but wow what a kick and muzzle flash. It's not a "fun" pistol to shoot... but if, God forbid I have to, it will put some serious hurt on a bad guy.

Where did you find the 586?
I looked a S&W website a while back and didn't see them any more.My Lieutenant's gun safe. He knew I was looking for a 4" .357 range plinker, so he sold me one of his least desireables. A little holster wear near the muzzle and on the cylinder, but, other than that, it's tight. Seems to have been carried lots, shot little. At $325 I couldn't pass it up.

This will be tough to remember. An FN SCAR, a Savage Model 10 .308, a PTR-91, a Yugo M70AB1, Yugo M72, and a Romanian PSL. Handguns, I acquired a new Smith & Wesson 1911, Ruger LCP, Beretta 92fs, Ruger Mark III, and a Skorpion. I think that about covers it. I sold a lot, too.

Oh, and also a townhouse.

Dpms LR-308 Ap4. Troy 13.8 Battle Rail, Troy Buis, Magpul Miad grips, Magpul UBR, La Rue 20 MOA QD scope mount, La Rue QD Bi Pod mount, Harris Bi Pod, and for glass Leupold MK4 LR/T 3.5X10X40. I wanted it to be my version of a S.A.S.S, or counter sniper build. Great rifle tho hitting 5 gal buckets at 700 yards on family land.

GSG5-22 for my girl when she goes with me, she said she wanted one because it was cheap to shoot, and easier to handle for now while she learns, so I was sold and picked it up for her surprise what the hell why not gift. Lol.

And Remington SPS Tactical, Badger 20 MOA Riser, Badger USMC 30mm rings (SASS rings) and for Glass Leupold MK4 LR/T 4.5X14X50. I went with a 14X because I figured it to be in the middle, and just right for long range and turned lower for shorter ranges. I've only gone out to 100 yards for initial zeroing and only 50 rounds thru but scary accurate.

I don't remember how long gunsnet has been down so I will use this as an opportunity to post a couple pics of my most recent purchases. Both coincidentally enough from the house of Wilson.

The first one is a Wilson CQB 1911 in .45 ACP. It has no roll marks on the slide and I put a set of faux ivory grips on it. They are actually a little darker than that but the camera flash washed them out. I also got a spare set of pins and springs as well as a tuned extractor for my parts box.

http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr330/jbw1972/IMG_1309.jpg

The second is one of their custom 870's. I added a stock pouch for a few more rounds and a VTAC sling for two extra cool points. Don't break into my house at night. Not only will I stun you with a dazzling surefire but the sheer good looks of this remington may cause you die of jealousy...or you may get it from a 1oz slug...either way.

Picked up a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm for IDPA competitions. I installed an Apex Sear resulting in a very nice 4lb trigger pull. I replaced the front sight with a HiViz Fiber Optic for fast target acquisition...

Well, I bought another Yugo M70AB2 (not as nice as my original that I sold), picked up a National Postal Meter 1943 M-1 carbine that is an absolute dream, and a CZ-82. Current project is to sell my Yugo SKS and use the funds to finish my Ar-15 build. After that, might save up to get a nice M-1 Garand or an Enfield.

Hey Buddy, glad to see you back!

My new aquisitions were a pristine Polish U/F kit, an even better condition Bulgy -74 kit, a DPMS M4 clone, it was a LE trade-in with chrome bolt/carrier and A-2 stock for $600, and barely used. It is marked for military/LE use only. Put a EOtech 511 on top and added an M4 collapsing stock and MBUIS rear sight.
My major pick-up is a MARCOLMAR PKM collectors kit. I added several 100rd cans and a couple 200 and 250rd cans and belts to go with all of them. Already had a few k of x54r on hand just waiting. She shoots like a dream!!!
Can't wait to build the AK's (including a Romy G kit). Also got an AR lower when I got the NODAK recievers for my builds, I want to make an SBR, someday!
