hey guys how did I do on my first home mede knife?

I made this to give my 9 yr old son upon his passing over from weblos to boy scout this feb and hopefully he gets his arrow of light as well.
I made this patterned from the old Indian trade knives of the 1700's and thought it
would make a cool camp knife for him. the blade is made from a concrete cutting blade and is extremely hard and seems to hold one hell of a good edge. the handle is made from oak with brass screws and 1500 lb epoxy holding the scales on. I also added a brass tube for a lanyard hole.I also hand filed the jimping on the spine of the blade and
the Mediterranean notch at the tang.

Thanks, I hope he keeps it and passes it on to his kids. On another note when I was making this knife my dad came out and made one himself with me. I thought that was cool since we work together (he is retired but still goes to hang out with me) finishing drywall. I am now working on a boot knife sized coffin handled bowie for myself.
I need to figure out what material to use for scales though. I have done oak now I want to try something a little different.

9 years old? He must be almost 10... usually they cross-over at 11 but can cross at 10 if they're in the grade level - 5th? I forget.

Just want to add to make sure and get with the Scout Master and have him earn his totin chip right away! That way, he can carry it.

I hope all fathers of boys here have them in Boy Scouts... if not, they are missing something really good for their sons - and good for them too! :)

Both of my boys are Eagle Scouts (brag brag).

That's a great-looking knife!

You might consider having the blade engraved with your, and your son's, names and the date. That way, your grandkids will think a little more of it when they get it.

Any jeweler can engrave it for you and it won't cost much.

Looks very nice, though I think I'd of put a guard on it to prevent young hands from slipping toward the cutting edge. Should be a good skinning kinfe given the balde shape.
