Any page that opens with sound can cause a person to lose their job. Nothing worse than opening a page when you are in a quiet office area, only to be assaulted with loud music or someone bragging about how great their car is (hint hint auto websites).

Oh you're 100% right. The stock VB4 smilies suck.

Now, a clever programmer could setup a little window so that each user could grab, say, 10 of HIS OWN PERSONAL favorite emoticons and store the preferences in the database. So, each person would have their own little customized "palette" of smilies to choose from (and they wouldn't rotate like VB4 does, making them impossible to find from day to day).

I did that on my temp board just as Gunsnet came back up, so nobody got to try it out. :(

And it doesn't take up much room in the DB either. The simple, easy way to do it is simply store the smiley filenames for each user. To save a few bytes, each smiley could be given a code number and the user selections stored as tiny INT's (not that it's necessary on a multi-terabyte server).
