I finally broke down and bought my "must have" Mosin-Nagant, a M39 B barrel with the plum barrel. I've wanted one of these for years and although not rare I just never picked one up, this weekend a guy one in new condition with sling for $275 so I go me my Christmas present :)

Awesome. Glad you joined the club. When it is dark shine your flashlight in the safe and you will see the purple hue from the barrel.

Awesome choice!

I'm not sure what you mean by "not rare" though, as there were only @ 8,000 M39's with "B" barrels made. That sounds pretty rare to me!

I mean not rare as in I see several a year at local shows, I consider them uncommon but "rare" always sounds like a guy trying to make more of what it is then what it is :) . At this show there was 2 B barrels, although only one was a plum barrel and I wanted that feature :) . BTW it's built on a 1899 receiver, my 1944 VKT is built on a 1898 (antique).

Nice find, Mike! I have both an M39 and by $hit luck ran across a M91 B I traded for.
That's why I wanted that Darrel's mount you had a while back, to play with my B barrel, as the M39 is almost new.

Merry Christmas mriddick!!, (Good price too).

Now get those pics and a target up.

The B references a contract of barrels made in Belgium. They are plum colored due to the metal having a high nickle content so they don't blue up well. When these first started showing up in 2001 in the US C&R world it was estimated there were only 1,500 of these known in the world. I think we have blown 10X past that. Here are images of one I use to have. It was very arsenal rebuild minty and could do the 1.3" group at 100 meters. If the rifle failed to achieve that the gunsmith didn't get paid by the Finnish Government.

If you look at the barrel in between front of the receiver face and the rear sight you should detect the less than black Plum color.

I understand where you are coming from. my 1956 made Chinese Type-53, was hard to find, even more so, with all Matching Numbers.

Very Nice... I'd love to have one too... but man, that's "another caliber" to add to the "ammo stash"...

That has become an important consideration to me when buying a gun... I don't like to have less than 500 rounds in stock for ANYTHING I own, and want to keep 1,000+ rounds around for calibers I shoot more often. Doesn't take too many calibers for that to turn into a considerable commitment.

The good news is, the more calibers you shoot, the slower you burn through any given one.
