So in a situation where none of us are hitting our local military surplus store, internet or REI, your boots would be worth more than gold.

Do you have a pair of boots sitting in your closet for a rainy day?
If so what are they?

Ive got a pair of Asolo's in a bag in my closet that were bought three years ago, havent worn them more than a few times, but I just figure they are my end of the world footwear.

Strangely enough, I have a pair of Asolo's identical to yours.

Best damn boots I've ever owned. My only complaint is that they are a little slippery on wet rocks.

I used to be a big Vasque fan. Unfortunately they are made in China now.

Matterhorn (http://www.corcoranandmatterhorn.com/Category_viewall.asp?Gender=&CategoryID=33) 1997: Waterproof Boot with DRYZ IntelliTemp® Insulation (http://www.corcoranandmatterhorn.com/ItemDisplay.asp?Style=1997&CategoryID=33). I have been wearing the same pair almost daily for 5 or 6 years now. Resoled them 3 times as that is the only thing wearing out on them. The key is to keep them polished and conditioned. Condition about every 2 or 3 days and strip the old polish off and polish about once a week.

For regular wear, I have switched to Merrell (http://www.merrell.com/US/en) Sawtooth (http://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/7987M/0/Mens/Sawtooth?dimensions=0). Most comfortable hiking boot I ever owned.

I've had three pair of Asolo's and two are still going strong. They each usually last me 1-2 years of wearing every day for work and sometimes on the weekend if I plan to do a lot of walking. They are without a doubt the best boots I've owned.

They are a bit slippery on smooth surfaces as Flinter said

Don't forget the SmartWool socks either. :)

Belleville 795's. Waterproof + Gortex. Great on slippery rocks, great in snow and ice. Good wear resistance. They breath really well and required no break in pain to go through. They have felt like heaven since day one.
My wife and I both have a pair of those.

LOL When I bought my boots I told the salesman that I would be needing a pair of wool socks to go with them. He said that they had "smart wool" socks in the back so I told him just to grab me a pair and meet me at the register (I had to take off the new boots and put my other shoes back on). So he rings me up and I leave....get to the car and start thinking that something is wrong. I kept adding the price up and it didn't make sense.

So I check the reciept and see that the wools socks were 20 bucks! I just about wrecked the car....never in my life have I paid that much for a pair of socks.

After wearing them, I now own 5 pairs of 20 dollar socks.

Yep, Sundownders were my favorite boot as well. Did you notice that even though they are made in China now....the price stayed the same.

I have 3 pairs of these because the sportsmans guide has them cheap. OK everyday boots I guess, they need insoles as they don't come with any. http://image.sportsmansguide.com/dimage/140467_ts.JPG?cell=300,300&cvt=jpeg fugly? yes. warm? no. waterproof? I don't know.

I have various other boots as well, but I have no idea what they are.

I like Thorogood and have a few pair. My newest pair are Rocky's from Sportsman's Guide. So far very decent. I have some Columbia hiking boots that I like too.

Back when I was doing spec ops missions in the Czech republic I always favored flip flops.

Since then, I have several pairs of boots and hiking shoes.

I've used a pair of Cabelas' "Perfekt Hikers" for years for both backpacking and hunting:

http://www.giftag.com/clip/rickmahn/cabelas-perfekttm-7-hikers-by-meindl-clip.jpg

They're great here in Ohio for winter boots, solid enough for backpacking, bit a little heavy for stalking. Much better for stand hunting, though.

I have 3 pairs of Merrell Moabs now (2 in each car and 1 pair at home)

http://eshoespot.com/shoes/images/thumbnails/Merrell-Moab-Gore-tex-XCR_222691.jpg

A bit thin for the winter, but great for the rest of the year.

I'm also getting a pair of these for Festivus:

I usually wear a pair of Rocky S2V's but I have some old boots from the military such as the jungle boots, or steel toe pole climbing boots. I also have some Wolverine steel toes from work that are comfortable. I hate steel toes but it's part of the job, just can't find to many boots that fit well since they all seem to be made in China now.

i have almost exclusively worn these.....http://www.redwingshoes.com/red-wing-shoe/2218-red-wing-shoes/2218-red-wing-mens-9-inch-logger-lineman-black

my current pair is 6 years old and still has another 6 years of life left in them. yeah, they're heavy and bulky but nothing says "stomp your guts out" like a pair of Red Wings!

I hate flip flops; I'm old and injured enough to appreciate arch support.

I've got 2 pair of light Nike hiking boots, a pair of Redwing work boots and a pair of Irish Setter Wing Shooters. They all serve a purpose but I wear the Redwings the most.

Back when you had to get your unit commander's blessing to wear Hi Tec Magnums with your BDUs, I really liked those. They didn't last that long though. When I was getting ready to deploy in 2005, I found a pair in coyote tan rough-out and thought they'd be good enough for a year's worth of comfort. Because they were USMC "Coyote" and not Army "Desert Tan", I got a good talking to by the 1SG and CSM and they got shipped home; never saw foreign soil. Nice thing was I had a new pair of everyday boots when I got home. For Magnums, they just wore out on my this last summer!

I wish I'd have bought another pair, 'cause I can't find 'em anymore.

Good thread and input. It's got me thinking about what to get next. I tried some Merrill hiking/trail running shoes on the advice of friends. I'm not impressed.
