I have a very specific pattern I need made and a small knife. Had one made by a guy on the internet a few years ago and he made it out of weak steel. Looked great but didn't hold an edge worth a crap. I broke the tip off today and am looking to get another made. Let me know if you will take on the job. Thanks.

No knifemakers here? So... any suggestions as to who to contact. I don't need one of the big name guys. Just some small time maker that is reasonably priced.

Don't know anything about him but here is a guy who I think is pretty close to you.

Got any photos of your knife. Do you know what the "weak steel" was? I my experience the heat treat can and often does make all the difference in the making of a knife. You can take a great steel with poor heat treat and end up with a crap knife. You can also take an average steel and with proper heat treat end up with a superior product.

IIRC, Arnulf is a knife maker or at least dabbles in it for his own enjoyment.

Thanks. I contacted VA Blade today but haven't heard back from them. They are only about 30 minutes from me.

As for the steel. Not sure what it was. It may have been tempered improperly... I dunno. It snapped off about 1/2" from the tip. Sorry... no pics and it's in the garbage now. Nope... wasn't doing stoopid stuff like using it as a prybar. It was in my upperarm pocket and I was bracing myself against a brick wall for leverage on that arm and heard it snap. Guess I caught it just right. I don't hold it against the maker... guess it's hard to pinpoint a possible flaw.

The knife it was and I want is basically a copy of the the H.G. Long Lapel Dagger with a slight modification to fit my specs.. About 5" long and double edged. It was a handy little item to have and I used it all the time. Problem is... the only one's that can be found are original H.G. Longs and can't see using one of them on a daily basis. Nobody is making a copy that I can find.

If you guys have any suggestions for a current production knife that is of similar size and style... I'd just a soon go that way. Looking at the Knox 01 Thumb Dagger but not fully committed to it.

O.S.O.K.

The first pic is what I am going to have made. The second... well... SG screwed up an order for me a few years ago and sent me one of those knives. Not much at all. Made in China stamped on it and... even if it didn't... it had chinese crap written all over it.

You can contact http://www.angelsword.com/forge.php. I have held one of their swords and can say, they are the real deal. Razor sharp and tough as they get. I have seen them plung a sword through a car and still cut through several tatimi mats. The owner is a Master Bladesmith.

Even with the small item I want... based on their prices I don't think I can afford them.:wow:
