Is this stuff corrosively primed? I never gave it a second thought before and just always cleaned my mausers with water to be sure.

But... I just bought a Hakim and it's much more involved to clean - gas system and such.... so I was wondering.

This is what I'm talking about = AIM has it on strippers for $99/340round tin.

yes it is corrosive. BTW if you have any turk 8mm mauser do not use it in a hakim, I have heard several people who have had them "explode" while using turk

and the Romy shit is dirty as shit in a Hakim

Best luck I had was with real German ammo.

I bet that stuff works just fine in most M98's. I have some that looks like those rounds only without the sealer. It was made during the war under Nazi occupation but I don't remember which country it was from. I also have some copper washed stuff from the Nazi era that looks like the steel core 7.62 X 39 Chikom stuff we used to get.

I always thought lacquer and copper washed techology for ammo was a Kommie invention until I got ahold of that Nazi stuff.

You should assume that any Kommie-made ammo is corrosive if it's made before the 1980's.

Don't worry - I won't be putting any Turk 8mm in this!!! I do have one bandoleer of that crap left and I should probably just smash them and toss. I think its too hot even for my Turk Mauser. This Rommie stuff shoots great though - and I haven't noticed that it's dirty but then I've only shot it in bolt guns...

Oh well, all of the 7.62x54 is corrosively primed too... I'll just have to spend a little time and take it down and clean after the range sessions.

Thanks for all the replies!

Yes Romanian is corrosive primed. On the Turk, pull the bullets and take out 2 or 3 grains of powder. They become sane then.

I guess that the Hakim is pretty easy to strip and you just need to clean the gas tube out good...

Is all of the Romanian the same - 70's and 80's production? Or did they change the propellant in the 80's? I think AIM is selling the more recent stuff...

And how about this? http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/index.php/cName/8mm-mauser-fmj (Yugo 196 grain brass cased...?) I'm sure it too is corrosively primed but what about performance in the Hakim? I think the review I read was positive on this ammo...

Wideners has it for $235/900 round tin on strippers too

IMHO If youre gonna buy 50's Yugo I'd sit in front of the TV for an hour with a caliper measuring OAL and case length.

I lost a 1919 trunnion and top cover to this stuff due to it's great specs.

The romanian 8mm mauser 150 grain steel core ammo is currently the very best 8mm surplus ammo you can buy i shoot this stuff out of my k98 german ww2 mauser an i go right threw 1/2 steel plate like knife threw butter.. It is safe to shoot threw your Hakim. But after about 100 round make sure to clean your rifle an see how much powder residue is in there i shoot about 100 rounds threw my k98 an it took about 10 to 15 patches of solvent to completly clean my barrel. The Romanian 8mm is FMJBT bullet as compared to the Nickle plated Turkish stuff witch is loaded overly hot the bullet it self is not Boat tailed .

I have personaly shot the turkish stuff out of a 1941 ankara k98 mauser an that thing kicked big time..

If it's 1950's Yugo count on deep primers and hard primers. One needs a special firing pin to get 100% ignitiion out of it and or an extra power fp spring. If it's 1980's Yugo it's sure fire and accurate. Actually the 50's stuff is pretty accurate as well. Now a spoiler for you. I use to buy those 900 round cases of 50's vintage for as little as $75 bucks. The 1980's vintage was usually $100 ish per case. My brain would not allow me to spend nearly 4X the price for it even if it was the 1980's good to go 100% version.
