As some of you guys already know I bought a M1009 from the government about 2 months ago. Well I am still waiting on my EUC to clear.

I did however get the Banks turbo in.

Looks good..

Did you get it at an auction and if so was the price good?

Linx-Are those actual miles or +100,000? Is there an hour meter on the engine? If you paid a good price looks awesome. I am interested in a similar project after reading something Chiak47 posted on another forum. I never installed a turbo. Is that a 350? Not enough for you?

Chiak-did you ever pursue that truck you posted on Semper Vigilans? I was liking that!

Nice rig. If it were mine, I'd knock a little of the rust out of the floorboard and Line-X it. No sense in putting nice carpet in it, but who wants to look at rust?

It has a 6.2 liter diesel engine. I am adding a turbo because it really improves the all around performance of the vehicle including the mileage. I plan to remove any rust in the floor and then rhino line the inside of it.

The mileage shown is actual mileage and it does run. I nabbed this thing for around $1,500. Around here they go for 3-4.5k in running condition.

Go here

http://www.govliquidation.com

create an account and bid. When you win the auction they will give you some links to some forms you fill out and send in. The bidding restricts are the EUC.

Tomorrow a bunch of M1009 go up for auction. If you type M1009 in the search field it will list them. Also if you like 6x6 Dueces the military is selling almost all of them off so you can get those for under $700-$2,500 really easy. Just type m35a2 in the search field

The mileage and the hours did not add up.... unless the damn thing went over 300mph.

Nice score, Linx. You will enjoy the simplicity and the decent fuel milage from the 6.2 diesel, especially after throwing the turbo kit on. I'm curious as to how much performance will improve under a load and hilly terrain with the turbo. My 6.2 Suburban on 35s does great on flat ground and mild hills, but when I go into the mountains it struggles a bit. It used to be really slow, even on flat ground, until I got the injection pump rebuilt ($1000) and replaced the fuel pump ($20).

From what others have posted 60-70 hp and 115-160 ft lbs of torque. Also reported is an increase in MPG.

UPDATE: Still waiting on EUC...I sent some emails out and got a phone call. They claim I am 4 or 5 down the list and should receive approval in 2-3 weeks. Total BS! Others have already got there EUCs back and they bought theirs way latter then mine. Government inefficiency at work.

Did find some cool info out about my M1009. Seems it was a military police veh after all.

Since the wait is taking so long I decided to start ordering stuff I need.

I know for a fact it was going to need new tires, most of these trucks sit in the yard for a year or two and the tires dry rot.

I was gonna spend about $800-$1200 for a set of Goodyear M/Ts but a fellow MV enthusiast turned me onto a brand called treadwright.

Basically they make high quality retread road/off road tires. I was skeptical of buying a set of retreads but they have received glowing reviews on the off road forums. Both jeep and the Toyota forums report them lasting 40k-60k mixed use. And several off road magazines even have some ongoing reviews on them and have found they last just as long or longer then a new tire.

Treadwright Tire Review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQzzHR41zwk)

Retreads have come a long way and primarily get a bad name from the commercial trucking world because a lot of trailer owners run them improperly inflated and they overheat and come apart.

So by going with a set of retreads I got an entire set for about $430 shipped with the exact same tread pattern I wanted. And they have a 2 year warranty.

Pics of tires...they look brand new.

Looks good. Some TLC and it should be a good runner. The busted oil line is a bummer, but at least it should be easy to replace, and at least the damage wasnt hidden resulting in a blown turbo or massive leak. The retreads also look good to go, just keep a good eye out for tread separations on them, much like any other tire nowadays.

What's the shipping run? I'm thinking of bidding on one of the 6x6's.

IIRC your in MN...Look up the MN listing and you will pull up a ton of auctions from Camp Ripley.
If your in the southern part of MN then look under the WI listing and you will pull up a ton from Fort McCoy.

I was looking at a 6x6 to bob but the hours and mileage did not add up...
