Doesn't seem like a low end model, but I'm no expert. Looks like the parts are chromed that need to be. Has M4 feed ramps. I figured this was around normal price. After shipping and building a lower it should come to about $820 or so.

The last gun show I went to had double star A3 M4's and 20" models for $860-$950.

Chromed CMMG bargain bin guns are $650, but I don't know how the finish, quality of parts, and number of chromed parts compare.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Do you think that's low or high?

What makes it worth $500, complete upper with bolt carrier group and a buffer. M4 feed ramps, chromed bore I believe, Never seen an upper with a buffer before let alone for that price.

http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spikes-tactical-16-midlength-lw-upper-556-p-436.html More you should ask what makes this Spikes upper from Spike's worth $675. Granted, it is a stainless barrel but $175 more for essentially the same upper? Makes the AIM price seem VERY good.

Those seem to not have hand guards, charging handles, or bolt carriers.

Spikes has a good reputation, I like the chrome lined bore and 1x7 twist for the heavy weight .223 projectiles. I would say buy it.

Spikes has some inexpensive deals going to move up in the food chain. It won't be that way forever.

+1, most of the "complete uppers" ive ever seen never come with the bolt and carrier and charging handle, that would add over $100 to the price alone.

the buffer goes for around $30, a chrome lined bcg is going for around $150, chrome lined chamber and bore usually adds around $40 to the base price of the upper....... your now at a "base price" of $280, not counting the mag pull hg's.

id pass on it because its not my style, but if thats what your lookin for, id say its a pretty good deal.

I couldn't help myself. I happen to have a complete Spike's lower just sitting in the safe with a flip-up rear sight. Even has a single point sling on it already. I thought $500 was a pretty reasonable deal....and the shipping was free. I'll post a review once I get to coonfinger and/or shoot it.

You seem to of conviently forgot the complete bolt group with carrier, charging handle and the upper receiver.

"bcg" = bolt carrier group. and the upper would be included in the "base price" of an upper receiver, as all upper assys come with a receiver, bbl, fsb, hg's, gas tube, delta ring, dust port cover, forward assist, ect.. and yes, i didnt include a price for the charging handle, which would only go to further my point.

Well, the UPS man delivered the upper today. No range report, but everything is straight and the finish is nice. One thing I've noticed though. All of my ARs, not just the Spikes, seem gritty when you work the action. The only AR I've ever had that was smooth was my Colt. Do I just need to lube it well and work the action a few thousand times, or is it something I shouldn't worry about?

I noticed that all of the Spike's uppers, not just the middys, were sold out at AIM. Apparently I'm not the only one who thought them a good deal. Overall, I'd make the purchase again.

On a new rifle or build, I clean it, lube it, and cycle the action 500 times.
Clean and lube again before going to the range.
It helps smooth and mate the assembly.

You're high on something. Go find a link to a complete upper for 280 with a buffer and post it.

Sounds right to me. If I was going to build another AR I might jump on this. Maybe with the YHM for grip. Good buffers I have one in mine now.
