Some I had in the C&R collecting days.

They're fine looking Enfields. Any info? What models, or years or where you bought them? Did you buy more than 1 at a time. Were they cosmo queens that you cleaned & refinished or did they come like that? Did you take them to the range? Did you do any research to see if they had a history?
Inquiring C&R minds want to know?

All but one are No.4 MK1s. One was a Mk2.
1942 thru 52, IIRC. I bought them from a guy here (don't remember his name) and bought all from him at different times. No cosmo queens, they came just like you see them. Nice, if I say so myself. I took one to the range, and was really surprised how accurate it was. I didn't do any history search on any of them.

This .303 round is a great round from a fantastic rifle. The Mark III ruled the world before the rise of rival Prussian Militarism. I own several of these fine rifles. You really have some excellent collector grade rifles here. I had to strip most of my WWI, Mark IIIs and sand and re-finish the wood. Now I wished I had just cleaned them and put them back together. I ruined the collector value and might as well sporterized them. They look fantastic but even the unlearned gun collector can tell I refinished the stocks, fore-grips and barrel guards. I learned my lesson and obtained one 1917 Mark III, stripped it, cleaned it, and put it away. None of my WWII Mark I's have been altered other than stripped and cleaned. I fire all of them except the one Mark III in my safe. I've taken deer, hogs and coyotes with the Enfields. However, here in Texas, we can only carry a five round maximum magazine (counting one in the chamber), so I had to buy the magazine block, to make the rifle only take five rounds when hunting deer. Sure enough, the weekend when we are allowed to take two does, the game warden drove down to where I had taken my second doe for the day and asked me to take out the mag. This was on my family's place and this particular game warden had never met me or any of my family. The regular game warden came right behind him and told him we (my family) are disciplined hunters and he just came to see what I was shooting with. Every year I try to use something else. A Mauser, an Springfield 03, a Mosin Nagant. I do own a Weatherby 7 Rem Mag and a Savage Euro Classic .270. I use those to take my Bucks. The older established local warden asked to look at my Enfield. He told me he had an Australian Enfield and if I would take a doe for him (my son still had a tag) he would give me the Enfield. I almost choked. He asked how much would a rifle like his be worth. I said I paid $450 for this one. My son killed a doe for him about five minutes before shooting light ended (he had his Ruger Hawkeye M77 7mm-08) and the doe season was done. We called him up and he came to the house with his ice chest and helped us dress his doe and he gave me a very nice Australian Enfield dated 1918. Nice Rifles.

No pics handy but I've got a Lithgow No1 MKIII* and P.O.F. No4. Anyone else got a P.O.F.?

When I first got it, years ago I corresponded with Mr. Stratton and at that time they weren't that common. Forget what year mine is but it's nicely made and last time I shot it, as far as I recall it did as well as any other No4 I've had.

I have one No1 MkIII from 1915 that somehow ended-up in the Austrian Constabulary after WWII. It has a rooster stamp at the top of the receiver ring. I also have one Brit-manufactured No4 MkI that's dated 1954, when it was FTR'd. There's also a couple of Savage U.S. Property units. One's a No4 MkI with ladder rear sight from 1942. The other Savage is a No4 mkI* and has a flip-type rear sight with no date, just an ordnance ball stamp on the receiver mount.

If you could only have one rifle, you could do a lot worse than a .303 Enfield. I love 'em........but I feel that way about all my babies.

Still have most of my Enfields. Current inventory is

No4 Mk1/2 (FTR Faz) 1953
No1 MkIII 1917 (Lithgow)
ShtLE III 1914 (Enfield)

Used to have a No5Mk1, but had to sell it due to economic distress

The Lithgow and the #4 are great shooters, the Enfield is more in wall hangar condition, due to severe muzzle erosion and a poorly repaired (but absolutely beautiful looking) stock. I have shot it, but couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with the damn thing, either with handloads or surplus. The other two are Minute of Man with either ammo

I had 5 at one time - now down to 3. A 52 Faz No.4MkII, 1950 GRI 303 (was a wire wrap that I unwrapped...) and a 1916 No.1MkIII. I had a 1902 No.1MkI** and a 40's No1MkI.

Great shooters. The only complaint that I have is that the ammo is harder to get - the milsurp ammo I mean. I like shooting cast boolit loads out of em as they are more accurate than jacketed...

MJ1- that is an outstanding target - and nice smelly too!

All UK bits too. Just another project I won't find time for, look how fat the .308 barrel is.

That is a beautiful rifle. I would like to get a couple of SMLE's one day. On the top of my list would be an Austrlian and Canadian one. Or an sniper one if I found one I could aford.

I'll play.

Bought this as a basket case "Bubba Speacial" for about a hundred OOD. The stock was "modified" extensively complete with a screwed on remington recoil pad, the front sight had the ears and bayo lug ground off, it was tapped fer' a scope, the rear sight was removed, and to top it off... the phosphate black finish on the gun was wire wheeled off and then cold blued.

After ALOT of work it looks like this. It took awhile scraping together parts from all over the net and some gunshows, fixing the taps ad puttng it all together, then taking it to Rocky Mountain Arms for their Bear Coat in Classic Gloss black.

Looks pretty good.
