Not you knotheads, stuff in the safe that hasn't been out in way too long...:bigsmilebounce:

Kar88:

This started life as a Kar88 and at some point in it's life it was rebarreled to .257 Roberts. I haven't fired it much since the only ammo I can get my hands on is +P. Once I get my reloading set-up well, set up, I'll be loading down for it.

7mm Spanish Remington Rolling Block

For many years it's been thought these RRBs manufactured for Mexico and South America were chambered in 7x57. But those that had them knew 7x57 was close and shot well in them but it wasn't quite right. In Black Powder Cartridge News, Spring 2007, Issue #57 John Rhodes wrote an article Is The 7mm Remington 1902 Rolling Block A 7X57 Mauser? Is That Your Final Answer?. Using German sources among others, he makes a pretty compelling case they were actually 7mm Spanish Mauser. That round was adopted for the Spanish 1893 Mausers and when Mexico adopted the Spanish 1893s in 1895 (confused yet?:bigsmilebounce: ) it was natural for the RRB to be ordered in the same chambering.

I haven't fired this one much either mainly because I only had a couple of boxes of Prvi 7x57 and 3 7x57 rifles at the time. I'm down to this "7x57" and a local pusher got more Prvi back in so I snagged 3-4 boxes. I tried S&B twice. Both rounds split around the base. Hotter load than the Prvi? Brittle brass? Chamber too long? I think it's a combination of the three. Between the fired Prvi I have (and will make with the current stash) and my plans to get some virgin brass, I should be set once it's all fireformed and neck sized.
