Every time I change ANYTHING, go into a new thread, I hear this bullshit.....what gives? Its starting to really piss me off, as I have to constantly keep the volume of my computer silent, which is also a pain in the ass.......

how about we get rid of the damned thing>?

WTF are you talking about? I don't hear anything. I do see the Volkswagen ad - is that what you are talking about?

And do remember, this board is costly to keep up and running. Unless you are offering to fund the board, you need to accept that advertisements are a neccessity.

There's probably some setting that you can use to quell this... try the help forum...?

That will go away once you hit 1000 posts.

Or when you download ad-block.

I still click on and buy from the sponsers, however.

I am using IE8 - I think. Anyway, not Firefox or whatever. Maybe that's it?

I guess that's why I don't hear it. I use firefox and have ad block installed in the add on's.

I have Firefox and Ad block. But once the damned ad BLASTED about Activia and my colon ... loudly! Damn. I thought I was going to jump out of my chair!

It does make stealth browsing at work a real chore. Just what is needed when your boss walks by a couple of cubicles over, and an ad for Activia starts blaring!!!!!

Unfortunately I need the sound on to tell me when I get incoming messages that I have to respond to, otherwise I'd rip the speakers out.

One thing to keep in mind, those ads help pay the bills and keep this site going.

I use Firefox and ad-block. Ad-block is not enabled here (for porn site pop-ups only...J/K) and I hear nothing.

I'm guessing the ad volume is linked directly to one's contributor status.

Bingo.

In a perfect world, we would all be able to pay for the site so the owner doesnt need advertising money. We as members do not kick in enough to even come close to paying the bills Im sure.

I too think its a small price to pay to have a place we enjoy.

I have been involved with this site now 10 years, and have never encountered this before.......I apologize, I understand bills need to be paid.....but damn thats an annoying ad.....

I understand..I'm just a lowly sys admin. David told me about the ad, I think they're just trying different ads for revenue. He's working hard to get this site back to where it used to be, so you may see ads that annoy you every once in a while. He just bought a NAS for me to backup the site to, it was expensive, but its the price he has to pay to make sure this site has no more downtime that killed it last time.

I know I don't want any further downtime here.

I don't mind the add bills have to be paid and all the adio though is anoying. If they weren't making noise I could care less.

You guys don't have to feel guilty about blocking the ads. Block them and lose the headache, and turn the block off now and then to click the links.

Another thing I do is always try to buy from the sponsers. No reason to feel guilty about blocking annoying ads when I still make a point to use the banner ads and links.
