Found a new one in a local shop this weekend, 5" not the smaller 3" for around $1100. While I WAS looking for a new 1911 I WASN'T looking for one in 9x19. While I didn't buy it, at least not yet, it did appeal to me. A very good looking pistol and I bet it shoots pretty soft in 9x19. Anyone have any experience with this one?

Here's what I'm talking about.

Never shot the S&W 9mm, but I do love how 9mm shoots in a 1911. I really want a
PM-9 from Dan Wesson. Maybe 2012 will bring me one. They sure shoot sweet.

I've been thinking about trying one of these Armscor 9mm 1911s.

I believe I've just about talked myself out of getting this one. Been looking around and mags are either $40+ or out of stock and I really want one of the new E Series that are coming out in March (street price might be around $100 less than this Pro Series), plus I've got more then a few 1911 mags so wouldn't need to buy more.

I like that one too! But uh, why not a Colt?

Why not a Colt?

No particular reason I guess. I've had a Colt Series 80 GM since 1984 and like it a lot even with the firing pin safety. Don't see ever selling it. That being said I've been wanting to try a bobtail and Colt doesn't offer one. Plus I'd like to try something different

The S&W also has several semi-custom features I like such as the Tritium night sites, 30 lpi front strap checkering, checkering on rear of slide, bobtail, full length guide rod, etc. Unless I'm mistaken just those items alone, not counting the bobtail would run you over $500 from the Colt Custom shop. That ends up putting you about $300 above the price of the S&W. Plus I just plain like S&W better. Colts are fine guns and I've got a few but I've probably got 5 S&W for every Colt, revolver and pistol.

I do rather like the Colt New Agent and it might well be another purchase I make this year. Variety is nice.

Seriously, if you are going to be playing in that price range there are many other 1911's I would choose first.
Look at the Dan Wesson Valor line, specifically the VBOB. If you want light weight, the Guardian is an Aluminum frame and the Barrel has a feed ramp on it. The fit and finish, as well as the quality of the parts will be miles ahead with the Dan Wesson and it's 100% American Made goodness. S&W makes an alright gun, but not for that much money. As far as Scandium goes...Scandium is a cool sounding word for more expensive with no real benefit that you will ever see.
There's a lot better value for your dollar to be had elsewhere is all I'm trying to say.

Because no one should willingly buy a pistol from a company that can't machine it's slides correctly just because they are the original. You would think Colt of all people would do it right, but I've seen enough examples where the bushing plug hole is machined way off center. If you point the muzzle straight at you, the bushing and plug clock off to the left (Ejection port side) pretty bad. I almost bought one of the railed versions from them, and was shocked to see it like that on every one I picked up. I've also seen pictures of other Colt's with the same problem. Not all of the new ones have the issue, but enough do that it really makes you wonder what else they screwed up on internally and let out the door. I really want a colt, but their QC the last couple years has sucked some ass.

The Dan Wesson is almost $500 more than the S&W. Not seeing that it offers anything the S&W doesn't for that extra money.

Better parts and better fitting. That's what it includes and you can get them for cheaper than what the MSRP list price is.
I Just saw a new VBOB get sold for $1300.

The S&W isn't a bad gun it's just not as good of a gun, especially for that price range.

Maybe I'll check around some. Buds Guns seems to have some of the best pricing and they show $1787.00
