When America’s top intelligence officer calls the Muslim Brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/) a “largely secular” organization, it’s appropriate to wonder what the intelligence community is doing with its generous budget. The spooks might get a clue from the organization’s name, if nothing else.

The White House (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/white-house/) is engaged in a full-court press to sell the idea that there is nothing to worry about if Egypt (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/egypt/)’s Muslim Brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/) takes power. On Thursday, Director of National Intelligence (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/national-intelligence/)James Clapper (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/james-r-clapper/) said in testimony to the House Intelligence Committee (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/house-permanent-select-committee-on-intelligence/) that the Muslim Brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/) “is an umbrella term for a variety of movements, in the case of Egypt (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/egypt/), a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried al Qaeda (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/al-qaeda/) as a perversion of Islam.” He added that they “have pursued social ends, a betterment of the political order in Egypt (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/egypt/), et cetera.” Nothing to worry about according to the intelligence chief, just a public spirited band of community organizers.

Propaganda aside, the Muslim Brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/) is anything but secular. Founded in 1928 by Islamist radical Hassan al-Banna (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/hassan-al-banna/), the Muslim Brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/) has worked to realize their dream of establishing hard-line shariah law in Egypt (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/egypt/) and export their extremist views globally. The brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/)’s most influential thinker was Sayyid Qutb (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/sayyid-qutb/), the godfather of contemporary jihadism and a preeminent theorist of Islamic revolution. The brotherhood (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/muslim-brotherhood/) has been an illegal political party for decades and has had to steer clear of openly advocating violence. This is typical of underground parties that seek to coexist with strong-armed regimes. Those radicals who have preached and openly practiced violence, such as the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, have been ruthlessly suppressed. Either way, whether extremist Islam is imposed by force or realized by the ballot, it’s a threat to U.S. interests and the cause of human rights.

This isn't the first time I have come across something like this lately. Major Stephen Coughlin, a lawyer and intelligence expert was recruited by the Joint Chiefs of Staff's to explain the doctrine and jurisprudence of Jihad to them. He studied the subject extensively then wrote a Masters thesis on the subject "To our great detriment: Ignoring what extremists say about jihad."

For his reward his warning was ignored and after upsetting a Muslim Brother working for the Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England he was dismissed from the Joint Chiefs. Apparently criticism of our Muslim friends and their Sharia law is not to be tolerated in the US government or in our armed forces. What a shock.

The 0bama team is a struggling bunch of inept, incompetent amateurs who demonstrate an almost uncanny ability to insert head firmly in rectum.
