Just thought I would post a hello and at the same time see if you guys think I got a good deal. I am new to the AK 47 world and trying to learn as much as possible about my new toys.

I not sure why or how this happened but I got a deal or so I am thinking it was a deal on a Romanian SAR 1. Could be just another spur of the moment adventure I have gotten myself into. The more I look at it the more I like it. I have not even gotten to shoot it yet but after taking all apart and cleaning it I have found a great attachment to it and it is only been at my house for a week.

I never really thought much about AK 47 type guns but I heard about a deal a coworker was offered and I said hey I got a new Ruger SR9C (that I just bought at a gun show two weeks before) I'll trade you and 50 bucks for your Romy SAR 1 that came with 1254 rounds of ammo, 4- 30 round mags and a 75 round Drum magazine and of course the 5 round mag.

So what do ya'll think? Did I do alright or I have I just lusted for another hobbie that will cost me lots of money?

Look forward to learning more from this forum and shooting my new toy!

Pictures to follow as soon as I get the file size down!

:welcome:

cant say, as i dont know what the ruger is worth. one warning though, a 1250 rnd tin of ammo, id be willing to bet that its yugo brass cased stuff, which is corrosive, so remember to clean it after each outing.

they are great guns. welcome to the addiction!

How much did your pistol costs add up too?

SAR-1 is a good rifle. Sounds like you got a good deal on a ready-to-go SHTF rifle.

Welcome to the group !!! :welcome:

Yes, with all that came with your new SAR-1 I would say you did good.

For your info, a little history about your new AKM variant. The SAR-1 was and remains the only true military issue rifle imported into the land of shall not be infringed. It was issued to new Romanian recruits during training. All other AK/AKMs that were imported were commercial rifles built to sell to those of us who are into firearms.

If the last two digits of the serial number are 99, you have a 1999 model, if 200X, that is the year. They were only imported from 1999 through the end of 2003 with a handful of 2004 sneaking in before ATF decided they didn't meet the sporting purpose clause of the new second amendment. (Also known as infringing on our rights by import restrictions)

Is it going to be a move that costs you money? OH YEAH!!!!! My first SAR-1 has fired well over 13,000 rounds, so get ready to spend money on ammo. These things have horrendous appetites.

Then because you like your new to you Romanian so much, you have to get one from another country or two, then another style, then another caliber, then another, and another and.... AK-ADDICTION!!!!

Again, welcome to the site! Enjoy the site and enjoy the start of your addiction!

Thanks for the reply's.

It is a 99 model I think. Anyway the last two digits of the serial were 99 and I think it is number 801 of the year.

Like I said I was pretty happy with the deal even not knowing what I was getting into.

Added the photo to your post. ;)

Figuring the SAR-1 these days sells for around $450, the drum about $100 assuming it is a Norinco, $75 or so if Euro-copy. Ammo these days would be near $250

Don't think the Ruger cost $800!

You did very good!

The reason I asked about the year is that some 1999s had soft hammers. Very easy to see if it is because after a couple hundred rounds or so you can see the metal mushrooming like the head of a soft punch or chisel. Replacement is simple and inexpensive if needed.

The Drum is a MDG-1 and the guy I bought the gun off of brought me the manual for it the very next day I think added to the value of it.

I wasn't into the 9mm anyway. I am a fan of the 45 and that is what I can reload. I am still in search of a concealable 45.

very nice SAR 1. A lot more firepower than a 9mm.

Welcome aboard!

I'd like to see more picture of the drum. It looks Chinese or maybe one of the Chinese pattern "Euros".

You did good on the deal...

MDG-1 is Chinese and they haven't been (legally) imported since the early 1990s.
