Does anybody remember those sabo 22 that you load into a 30/06/how well do you think it would work in 762/39? good speed I think they were called accelarators.

Well to be quite honest i prefer to shoot the diameter bullet the bore was intended for. To engage the rifling with the bullet is proper.

Allready been done. 7.62x39 ak shooting a 22 slug is 5.45.39 or perhaps 5.56x45.

Skip the sabot idea IMO. I've allways heard they can throw off accuracy quite a bit in some instances. Also the question of will the plastic sabot grab on the feed lip when it peels out of the magazine. Just a thought as i don't have a 762 handy to check that with.

the general idea was to get a huge increase in velocity. when going from a large case with a 165gn bullet down to 62gn makes a huge difference. a small case without much extra room for powder that is already taxed shooting a 122gn bullet, there are much smaller gains to be had.

and yes, the big problem was always accuracy.

If it's simply a matter of killing the boredom bug then by all means don't let me discourage you.
In that case i'm interested in hearing about the results of that little wildcatting experiment.
Would a 223 bullet even be long enough to sabot properly in place of a 762?
Seems a bit short at a glance.
Perhaps a 257 weatherby mag bullet would easily be long enough though (assuming it's not too long).
Would be interesting to see how well it maintains the flat drop characteristics it's so reknown for when shot that way.

I've loaded sabots in a 7.62x25 Tok. Used a .224 55 gr FMJ.
I had to really play with the loads to get the gun to cycle correctly.
I never chrono'ed it or shot for accuracy. I imagine it would key hole at a long distance.
