Found this link: http://counterstrikefox.freeservers.com/mv.htm

This seems to come up often, so thought it would be a good referrence link.

Its interesting that muzzle velocity goes up from 20" to 21.5", down from 21.5" to 24", then back up from 24" to 26".

Its also interesting that they say short barreled ARs without a long flash suppressor won't cycle reliably. I had never heard that.

This is dependant upon powder used.

Also:

"CAR-15 carbines of Vietnam had 10" barrels; however, they also had 4 inch long flash suppressors."

That wasn't a flash suppressor, it was actually a small sound moderator and that is why they are not street legal unless you get the papers for a can.

I would have liked to know how fast the bullet is going at various ranges as opposed to just out of the muzzle.

One must also contend with the increased muzzle blast from such short-barreled weapons, which can be considerable. There have been numerous police reports that officers firing short-barreled AR-15 carbines (11.5") in small rooms have come out with bleeding ears and noses.

You know my krink and ar pistol are very loud and no way would I want to discharge one in a small space .

That statement is incorrect. I have several SBR's and all function without a long flash hider.
The other thing that always bothers me when someone oviously biased writes off an SBR as useless is using ballistics from FMJ. Unless you are restricted by military standards why would you use FMJ for defense? HP's and soft points will do just fine in an SBR.
Even at lower velocities, comparing it to the wounding capabilities of a .22 is rediculous. Anyone believe a 62 gr. round traveling at 2200-2500 fps will not cause a tramatic wound?

my 11.5 will cycle anything you can feed it.
