Okay with warmer weather coming and the food prices getting out of hand it's time. So best kind of seeds to get? I guess the size depends on you location or property size.

Yes - it is time. I need to go get a couple loads of compost... and get it planted...

We put it in too late last year and the tomatoes and cucs got fried.

I like this place- it has a specialty in high altitude and extreme climate varieties:

I like to start things mid-March, no later than April 1 which means start trays indoors around here.

no matter what I do to it, nothing will grow. I have alot of trees so I may not be getting enough sun.

I just planted 5 tomato plants in 5 gal buckets. That is the only way I can get any tomatos. I am not sure I come ahead cost wise but they sure are good and I get plenty of green tomatos to make relish with.

The dirt down at my camp will grow stuff but I am not down there enough to keep them weeded or watered. With the price of gas expected to go over 4 bucks a gallon, I will be down there even less until I am ready to move....chris3

What type of dirt is it? Clay, sand, rock, mossy?
With a little work and some amending I bet you can get it growing anything. Just keep dumping compost into your "Garden Area" and mixing it in. Check ph and adjust accordingly. Add Gypsum.
There's always a way.

The area that my garden is in used to be my side yard and part of my front yard. We moved a wall forward, raked off the pea gravel, removed the weed barrier, tilled up and dug out all the old(15year+) grass roots and found I was left with a shitty composition of Sand, pea gravel, rusty nails by the thousands from when it was built, and a lot of clay and aggregate rock. It originally was a tan color with red tones to it. Now a few years later it is a nice deep black and will grow just about anything I want that can handle the heat. Last year I had a row of 8 Tomato plants. I ended up with over 90lbs of very ripe fruit, and close to that in green maters for frying/relish. We are set for a long time on Pizza/pasta sauce.

I've been busting ass the last couple of weekends getting mine all ready for this season.
I've got 3 rows of Dragon's tongue beans going, a row of peas, 60 Mater plants, a couple Tomatillo's, Zucchini, Cucumber, and a bunch of Pepper plants. Here's my list of Peppers I have going. I love Peppers.

12 Jalapeno
6 Serrano
6 Anaheim
6 Santa Fe Grande
1 Guallio
12 Orange Habanero
1 Orange Habanero from THSC
1 Giant Thai hot
1 Thai Rat Turd
2 Aji Lemon
7 Yellow 7pod
2 Bhut Jolokia "Ghost Chili"
2 Bonda Ma Jaques
13 Trinidad Perfume
4 Purrira

I've also got about every herb you can think of going as well as Bread seed poppy's, Onion, Garlic, Ginger, and hopefully if I can get them to sprout some Turmeric.

I just hope the weather is better for growing this season. Last year was really hard for some reason over the summer, more so than usual.

Good luck to you all on your grow season. I hope you all get the harvests you are going for.

Awesome. That idea solves my potato problem. no space for mounds, but I do have space for a couple of towers. I think I missed my season start this year, but next year that is a done deal. Thanks for linking those Recon.

As his yard was mostly rock, a bud grew them in kitchen size trash cans. He got a hell of a harvest.
