OK, I've just finished the 4th episode. My wife's sitting on the couch doing something on her laptop through the show... at the end, she looks at me and says "its a soap opera".

And I said back "its a space opera".

And so it is.

But, God help me, I like it. Cheesy? Yeah, that too and the guns - a chrome plated pg grip 870? :lool:

And I think I saw some FAMAS carbines on the alliance troops the episode before.

Its a really great show. Its just a shame it had to end so soon.

You just defined space opera.

Pretty much all American "sci-fi" movies and shows are space opera.

Cheesy, an opera, a space Western, yes. But I like it.
Waiting for the series on the Science channel in March.

OK so I look into Captain Mal's revolver - apparently that's a Taurus 85 with add-ons - so fantasy.

His right hand woman (Inara?) uses a mare's leg :lool:

Watched episode 5 last night too. :)

I just glad I saw the previews on TV, otherwise I'd never known of the series or movie, even though I had the movie sitting on the shelf for yrs.

Pay attention to the other revolvers in the show. I don't know what they are but they look to be 10 shot plus revolvers judging by looking at the cylinder.

That would be Jayne's pistol from the show. It's a LaMatt revolver dolled up to look sci-fi. It's my favorite gun from the series. :)

Callahan Fullbore Autolock "Vera"

A Modified Izhmash Saiga-12 (http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Izhmash_Saiga-12) shotgun used by Jayne (Adam Baldwin (http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Adam_Baldwin)). The weapon was built by Gunsmiths Larry Zanoff and the late Jim Boland for the movie Showtime (http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Showtime) then used on Firefly. It is capable of folding into compact form and still be fireable. Technically it's a shotgun, but in the show, it is a rifle that fires big bullets.

"Six men came to kill me one time. And the best of 'em carried this. It's a Callahan full-bore auto-lock. Customized trigger, double cartridge thorough gauge. It is my very favorite gun... This is the best gun made by man. It has *extreme* sentimental value... I Call Her Vera."
