I just installed a new fuel pump in my M38A1 and took it to the gas station today.

Had some old guy ask why I painted my civi jeep military colors. I told him it was a M38a1 military jeep and he responded:

"The military never used rounded fender jeeps, all of them had straight fenders"

Tried to explain to him that they did and got the following lecture:

"I was in the army 12 years, and have been familiar with army jeeps for over 30 years and they never used no jeeps with round fenders"

Dumbass....

Any one else get lectured by "know it alls" who know nothing?

Maybe the old guy just never got exposed to anything but the old Willys MB or Ford GPW and from his perspective time stood still after he got out of uniform. Don't let him control your blood pressure, there are other more important things to worry about.

Damn Do I see 60 mph on the speed o meter? Seems scary with such a short wheelbase and width.

Kinda think I'd question his whole pedigree..............just let him continue talking to himself!

Usually, those who know the least, talk the most.

You will always find some guys that have served in the military that think of it as a static time where things were always like it was when they were in and haven't changed since they left.

I never argue with them it's just not worth it and in the end all you can do is upset them, you really only have to please yourself anyway and it's a nice jeep so be happy in that.

I had an otherwise nice enough WWII vet insist to me the USS Indianapolis was an Aircraft carrier. He was an Avenger pilot and flew from the Lexington, and should have known that cruisers were named after US cites, Battleships were named after States, and Carriers were (for the most part) named after historic battles. No matter though. He was right, I was wrong, Because, as he put it: "I was there!"

Yeap, and at 55-60 mph its not a fun ride...It is most comfortable at 45-50 mph.

You should show the clown the picture of the rounded fenders. Keep it in the jeep in case you see him again.

I was at the Chino Air Museum several years ago, taking a tour of the B-17 they have there. I mentioned to the WWII vet/docent that my favorite show as a kid was " 12 O'Clock High ", and that my congressman, Bob Dornan, was in the series. The guy exploded on me- " What the hell are you talking about? Bob Dornan is a goddamn politician, not an actor! I watched 12 O'Clock High every episode, and Bob Dornan sure as hell wasn't in it ! " He was so freaked out, I decided not to argue with him.

Bob Dornan was also in a movie about F104 pilots called "starfighters" that got the MST3K treatment a while back.

Yeah be careful with those things. Seems like everyone I know that served in the military when those things were being used knows at least one guy that was killed or seriously injured when they got thrown out of a jeep or had a rollover accident.

It is entirely possible that in his 12 years he never used any Military Intelligence but I an told it exists......along with big foot, vampires, the Loch Ness monster and a Hawaiian berth certificate for some kid named Barry!
