I was a Teamster for a while. There's so much that goes on that drives me nuts. Really, I don't want the unions to go away, but way too many people abuse the large banner of representation that protects them and it hurts everyone. I went to Zeledyne (Ford Glass) the other day with two skids and it took nearly an hour to get unloaded due to the lazy F's jacking around and doing everything but work while they're making thirty bucks and hour. That's what turns people against the unions. OTOH, if the union truck drivers didn't make what they make, non-union outfits like mine wouldn't make what we make.

So would you say it's OK to restrict collective bargaining to salary only?

Restrict them from buying politicians.

If the unions were smart they would push a ban on political activity but I'm guessing they think this is a battle they will win.

Let's say you are a Republican living anywhere in the U.S. Like everybody else, you pay taxes that fund the public institutions (schools, libraries, municipalities, etc.), most of which are run by the democrats and unions. These people are paid with your "republican" money, yet they turn around and pay it into union dues and the unions use it to support democratic candidates. When those candidates are elected, they turn around and give that "republican" money BACK to the unions as "public work projects".
This includes the recent TARP money,"shovel-ready" projects, or illegal take-overs of privately held corporations where the unions are given a higher percentage of ownership than the investors and bondholders who actually FUNDED those companies!
So, even though you are a Republican, you are actually funding the unions and democrats with your hard earned money!

I would say the guy is too ignorant to even know what he is saying and is simply polly parroting michael moore or someone equally stupid.

The idea that what you make belongs to everyone is nothing but an idiotic fantasy that only someone honestly stupid and/or completly naive, or simply pushing their socialist agenda would even repeat.

It's an insult to a normal American's intelligence. At least the POS socialist pushing their agenda are probably smart enough to realize how full of crap they are but the people really trying to push it like it's a good idea are who really blow my mind.

im glad I got out of a factory, union or not.
I hated going to work at a non-union shop and if someone missed they would move you to their 12 hour job.
Its not my problem the company didn't have a person doing that job that day but they made it my problem.
A union would stop that real fast and you would be going home in 8 hours instead of 12.

I'm non union and I have to pull 10-12-14-18 hr shifts sometimes because of projects and emergencies. I get time and a half, sometimes you have to sacrifice for the team... it's not like they don't pay me extra for it, or that they do not appreciate it.
