Welcome to the forum.

Basically you have to open up the sides of the mag well wide enought to accept the standard capacity AK magazine as well as swap out enough foreign parts with US made parts to keep it complaint with 18 USC 922.

This link will help you out with the compliance part.

You can check YouTube for How To videos such as this one for info on the actual receiver modification.

This thread belongs in the AK47.net Gunsmithing forum - you will probably find all the information that you need there. :)

Yep - there's a thread about this very subject: http://www.gunsnet.net/showthread.php?6724-converting-single-stack-to-double-stack-on-wasr_10

OH, and :welcome: to the board! Stick around - you will find a lot of resources and helpful folks here.

If you get a chance - post a pic of your AK - most likely a WASR-10 right?

Thankyou big help

You're welcome. I did it years ago and it was really pretty easy though in my case I had to redo the mag catch as the rifle (SA2000M) took a special magazine. Not sure but on most other single stack clones you probably won't have that to mess with.

In my case I measured the mag well on a standard capacity rifle, transferred those measurements to the single stack and less than 30 minutes later I was done with the cutting and grinding (used a Dremel with burrs and cut off wheels). Adding the U.S. parts will probably take longer than the actual work on the receiver.

Don't know which model you're looking at converting but depending on the number of parts you need I'd suggest that swapping out the buttstock, pistol grip, front handguards and using U.S. mags is the fastest and easiest route to go, (if that meets your parts needs). Notice I didn't say it would be the cheapest. With places like Iron Wood Designs (I highly recommend them) you can spend a pretty penny on some beautiful wood for your AK clone. Good luck to you.
