Senate Bill 129 by Sen. Steve Russell, R-Oklahoma City, passed 36-8 and now heads to the House. If it secures passage there, it must return to the Senate.

I think TN House has pasted a similar Bill, it's now in the Senate.
Of course all the antis are fighting tooth and nail to get it defeated.
Our Reps., at least a majority, are Pro gun. The one good thing I can say about them.

While DC fiddles, Oklahoma burns for open carry

March 19th, 2011 10:32 am ET

Despite the US Supreme Court's striking down (http://www.scotusblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/07-290.pdf) of the District of Columbia's handgun ownership ban in 2008, residents and visitors to the nation's Capital continued to be denied the fundamental right to carry handguns in public, either concealed, or openly. This issue is both under litigation (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/07/AR2009080702997.html) and being scrutinized by a restless Congress (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/debonis/2011/02/congress_takes_first_whack_at.html).

But while DC fiddles for any right to carry, Oklahoma burns for open carry.

Oklahoma is one of only 7 states banning the open carry of properly holstered handguns in public. Last week the Republican dominated Oklahoma Senate passed SB 129, a bill to, like most states, allow open carry without the need for any permit.

Bid to revive open-carry measure fails in Oklahoma committee

A House committee member wanted to bring up a bill that failed to pass out of the same committee a week ago. The bill would have allowed residents with concealed handgun permits to carry their weapons in the open. The committee chairman ruled against him.

A House committee member today failed to revive a bill that would allow residents with concealed handgun permits to carry their weapons in the open.

Rep. John Bennett (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=John+Bennett&CATEGORY=PERSON) tried to get the House of Representatives Public Safety Committee (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=House+of+Representatives+Public+Safety+C ommittee&CATEGORY=ORGANIZATION) to reconsider Senate Bill 129. The same committee voted 9-8 last week against the measure.
