Yes. Every inch of barrel adds speed to the projectile.

I would order from just about any manufacturer except Olympic. DPMS makes affordable bull barrel uppers.

Also, the material the bbl is made of, and if lined or no. If just a plinker or combat rifle, chrome lining would be my choice. If for accuracy, I would go plain stainless of whatever length and weight desired. by the way, the 20in bbl was chosen because that was the length specified when creating the 5.56 round, a 20in bbl sending a 55g pill so that it was still supersonic at 500m. Stoner musta wanted his baby to be good out to 500m.
